Malayali worker dies when the Mosque under construction Collapses
Salalah (Oman) - In a tragic accident at Thana Industrial Area in Salalah, Oman, a 25 year old Malayali worker died at 10.30 a.m on December 23, 2001 when the concrete slab of a Muslim Mosque (under construction) fell down during construction. Aloopparampil Abdul Khadar Ismail (25 years) from Karuppadanna, Thrichur district was working for Ahmed Salam Al Rawas Construction Company, Salalah when the newly made concrete slab of the Mosque collapsed. The worker who was examining the support for concrete was trapped in the falling concrete. Even though two of his colleagues escaped with minor injuries, Ismail could be removed from the debris only half an hour after the accident. Nishad came to Oman only ten months back. Funeral will take place tomorrow morning at Salalah.
The Non Resident Keralite Association (NORKA) and other welfare agencies have been delaying the much needed insurance scheme for workers. The Indian Embassy is working on a new plan to ensure that all Indian workers get insurance coverage. The new Indian Ambassador has recommended to NORKA and the Government of India to follow the Sri Lankan workers insurance scheme. According to the scheme no worker is allowed to go abroad without ensuring full insurance coverage from the sponsoring company.
Malayali salesman dies in Road Accident
Barka: Saiju, 32 years, son of Kamalan, Puthuvalvila House Azhoor Village, Chiriyankeezhu (Attingal district) died at Rumaiz in Oman in a road accident when his car was hit from behind by another vehicle. The accident took place near the Rumaiz prison in Barka in the early morning and the Omani citizen who was driving the vehicle which hit him from behind also died in the accident. Saiju has been working as salesman of Oman United Agencies (OUA). He is survived by his wife Beepa and two and half year old son. The deadbody will be send to Kerala by tomorrows flight.
