A small Malayali businessmen has been attacked by a group of local goons in the night to rob him of his money. The Malayali was severely attacked by a group of local criminals when he was travelling alone in a taxi to Al Khuwar. According to the victim Ashraf Kurumbodu, from Kuttiyadi, he took a taxi from Ruwi Round About to Al Khuwair and when he boarded the taxi there were only two Arab youths of about 20 years in the cab including the driver. "Later on two more Arab youths of the same age came and entered the the taxi, pretending to be passengers. Even though I wanted to get down at Sorooj plaza in Al Khuwair, the taxi was taken through the old Seeb-Muscat road (Purana road). When he said he wanted to get down in Qurum, they asked him to give his purse, which I refused to do,' Ashraf says.

Following this, the youths started attacking him severely with sticks, iron rodes and other weapons. One of the Omani youth hit him on his head, causing a severe injury. Ashraf has been running a cafeteria in Kandab beach area of Muscat Oman.

The taxi was diverted to an isolated place in Madina Qaboos and the innocent victim was left there. The attack occured late in the night and the victim was helpless because the cab was taken to a very isolated place in Madina Qaboos--Al Khuwair.

When the culrpits tried to snatch away his money, the victim protected. However, he was attacked severely by all the gang members together. Of course, the target was to get about RO 400 plus in his purse, his Nokia Cellular Phone and all other belongings including his personal diary. The attackers took the money and spade away. The victim could not note down the taxi number, but has made a police complaint. The victims who was severely attacked by the four robbers was admitted to the local hospital and is to undergo a leg surgery. So beware of travelling alone in the night with lot of cash on you. Antisocial elements like this are said to be operating in other places as well. "I have been travelling like this for the last twelve years and it is my first experience. I had to walk about half an hour to reach back to Al Maha petrol pump in Al Khuwair from the place they left me. I want to ensure that such problems do not occur to my fellow countrymen in Oman," Ashraf said.

One Rajasthani was attacked last week while travelling back to Barka from Ruwi OK Centre. He was attacked by a group of locals and the modus operandi was same but he was attacked just for RO 20. This victim was also admitted to the hospital. Keep Watching this space for more details.
