Discussions lead to withdrawal of agitation by the Pro-Leftist Organisations
The fortnight long agitation by the Pro-Left students was withdrawn tonight, following a three-hour long talk with Ministers. The agitations, which were peaceful initially, had turned violent with the hartals and marches, which resulted in serious injuries to a large number of policemen and students. The government had given an assurance to look into the issues of admission norms and free structure for private professional colleges. All the agitations including a 12-day long fast by the leaders have been withdrawn following the government assurance.
Info sys to start operations at Technopark
One of the leading IT consulting and software service providers, Infosys will commence its operations with around 50 software professionals at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram on Nov 1. In this regard, an agreement has been signed between Info sys vice-president Vinod and the Technopark CEO N.R.Mahalingam on the 9th of this month. Information Technology and Industry minister, shri.P.K.Kunhalikutty announced the decision at a press conference and said that the Infosys centre would be initially housed in a rented 55,800 sq ft space in the Bhavani block of the Technopark campus. Minister kunhalikutty commented that the company, in the long run would set up its own campus in a 50-acre plot near the Technopark. With this expansion, it is expected to provide job opportunities to around 5000 software professionals.
Nehru Trophy bagged by Karichal Chundan
Karichal Chudan rowed by the Navajeevan Boat Club team from Kumarakom represented by its captain Thampi Podippara won the 51st Nehru Trophy boat race held at the Punnamada Lake. In all there were 19 snake boats in the race for the prestigious trophy. The second place went to Ayapparambu Valiya Divangi of Nattakam Boat Club and the third place to kalluparamban of Thiruvarppu Boat club. Speaker Vakkom Purushothaman gave away the trophies to the winners. The organizers of the boat race conceding to the demand of its sponsor Playwin, the leading online lottery changed the name of the event to Playwin Nehru Trophy. Playwin had donated Rs.15 lakh for the boat race. The other sponsors of the event are two liquor companies Shawallace and Mc Dowell.
25th anniversary of Mohanlal's acting career to be celebrated
Kerala's very own Megastar Mohanlal completes silver jubilee in his career as an actor and as a part of its celebrations Bharateeya Kalapeedom is planning to organize a one-week programme. The programme, which will start in the first week of September is titled as "Thiranottam". The events include a film festival of Mohanlal's 25 films at the Tagore Theatre, Thiruvananthapuram, photo exhibition on the various phases of Mohanlal's acting career and open forums everyday. The event will be concluded on September 14, with the honouring of Mohanlal at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium.
