- More Members Leaving Indian School Governing Bodies?
- keralamonitor.com December 11, 2002
- Indian School governing bodies are likely to witness further reshuffle as the concerned higher authority has been contemplating plans to remove members who have completed more than six years of service in school activities. "All the board and committee members who have completed six years in office should leave their official position. New members of the Indian community should replace the oldies," said an official source.
- Following the controversy generated by a series of accusations and counter accusations between individual members of an Indian School Management committee to remove a new member on the basis of alleged "immoral behaviour", the higher authorities examined the issue in detail. It is decided to strictly follow the maximum six-year term for each member. Even though this condition was enforced two years back, due to the reluctance of experienced people to come forward and take up voluntary positions, some of the old members continued. In one case, the member allegedly manipulated documents to prove that he has not exceeded the stipulated new time limit. Two members of the same school are allegedly overstaying. However, the dispute between the concerned authorities caused much delay in implementing these decisions.
- Two years back, the Indian school board was totally restructured with the inclusion of new members. Old Members who have completed ten to fifteen years were removed from the board. It is learned that the individual school committees still have people who have completed the maximum period. Even though the grapevine says two more members from the school governing body are already asked to resign due to unknown reasons, the concerned officials pretended ignorance about the issue. Some members of a leading Indian community school will also complete their service soon.
- One board member said quoting informal sources that two members plus the former chairman are on the way out. New members including a lady are being inducted in the school board. While the embassy official said he is not aware of the issue, KM learns that the school patron may announce the new members soon. The school issue, which was dormant for a long period due to the uncertainty over the future of a former board chairman is once again in the lime light following a High Court case filed against the Indian Government and the Indian Ambassador in Oman. -keralamonitor.com
