Dubai based voluntary body reaches help for the needy
DUBAI - A new voluntary body has been formed by a group of people in Kerala and Dubai called Global Personal Initiative (GPI) to mobilise independent initiatives in various fields to the benefit of the community at large in a small way. The group formed by a group of kind hearted humanists has already mobilised Indian Rs 1.5 lakh which has been placed in a nonbanking financial agency in Kerala. The interest of Rs 1000 will be given to the most needy person in the state every month. In a unique scheme, the organisation has sought the help of Mathrubhumi to identify the beneficiary every month from its news reports. Thus Unnimaya, a third standard student from North Parur suffering from Leukemia whose plight had been highlighted by the daily earlier was chosen as the first beneficiary for January 1996.Mr Madhusoodanan Nair, the deputy editor of the daily, Kochi handed over the cheque to Unnimaya's mother. Unfortunately the girl succumbed to the illness later. The fund of Rs 1.5 lakh has been kept for the purpose by a donor in Dubai who did not want to be named. The unique nature of the scheme is that the donor keeps the fund in his name only and he authorises the interest to be given in the name of the beneficiary. This ensures that the money reaches the deserving candidate.
GPI plans other initiatives too. One is scholarships for students in any school in India. Anyone can contribute towards this. The uniqueness of this scheme again is that the money will be kept in the donor's name only.
The endowment in the name of the donor's father or mother or some other person who influenced his life will be given to two students in a school of his choice. GPI contact details are available on the website or from k s r menon, Mobile number 4504252. Visit the Website :
