Hyper Market Work Stalled in Darsait

MUSCAT -Construction work for a new multimillion hypermarket in Darsait by a leading UAE based Malayali businessman has been halted (temporarily?) due to certain objections raised by the concerned authorities about the location of the market in the selected location. Even if it is learned from reliable sources that the hyper market project work seems to be abandoned, the businessman has apparently chosen another location at the Posh Qurm area . One reason sited for stopping the Darsait hypermarket is reportedly an objection from the traffic department.

The NRK tycoon has been moving very fast to capture the local market left by the closed down of many supermarket outlets owned by expatriates. Sources also suggest that the project was "abandoned" because there was a demand for appointing maximum number of nationals in the hypermarket. The traditional trading houses who used to make a fortune in a monopoly market are apparently upset about the opening of local market. Apparently many small scale shops have downed shutters after the arrival of two leding supermarket giants from the neighbouring countries. The latest victim is Capital Stores's Ruwi Outlet. Monthly rent alone is RO 750. Due to declining sales, the market could not sustain business. .(keralamonitor.com)
