Country's top export earner to exhibit at the International Fashion Jewellery and Accessories Fair in Dubai
Dubai, December 18, 2003 The leading Filipino costume jewellery designers' and exporters' association, FAME Foundation, has announced that it will be exhibiting its country's top export earner, distinctive costume jewellery created from shells, stone, leather and other unusual materials, at the first International Fashion Jewellery and Accessories (IFJA) Fair, to be held in Dubai from the 22nd to 24th March 2004.
"One of the exciting aspects of the fashion jewellery and accessories industry is the comparative freedom it enjoys in terms of the materials used to create items and its sources of inspiration," said Emad Al Hawai, Managing Director, International Expositions, organisers of IFJA. "Since costume jewellery is not bound within the limits of the rarity of precious metals and stones, nor the norms of acceptable design formats, which is normally the case with precious jewellery, the freedom to experiment with material and designs invariably produces beautiful, unique pieces of jewellery. Ranging from the exquisite to outrageous, this jewellery has unlimited potential as an expression of the personality of the wearer."
"This is one of the aspects of the fashion jewellery and accessories industry that IFJA seeks to highlight. The fair will ensure that the trade buyer can to find a large selection of designs to suit his needs, no matter what his target market might be," added Hawai. "The Fair will also provide a forum for the designers and manufacturers entering the market to keep abreast of the trends and evolving preferences of the buyers."
The costume jewellery industry in the Philippines has evolved over two decades with a tradition of innovation in design and raw material. Despite the highly competitive global markets, the jewellery sector has become the Philippines' top exporter because of the high demand for its designs and high quality crafting. According to data provided by the Philippines Bureau of Export Trade Promotion, earnings from this sector have grown almost 300 per cent in the period between 1997 and 2002. From an export earnings figure of US$ 13.64 million, the industry achieved export earnings worth US$ 36.96 million at the end of 2002. While the United States of America remain the single largest market, with a 35 per cent share of the global market for Filipino costume jewellery, the industry also has important markets in Japan, England, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Australia and Holland.
"While most jewellery designers use conventional materials like gold and silver for their pieces, Filipino designers decided to defy the norms and break out of the mould. From producing shell crafts, the industry has since matured to producing materials made out of coconut shell, wood, horn, stone, fibres, bone, leather, metal, paper and resin," said Josefina Capistrano, President, FAME Foundation. "Filipino manufacturers are also aware that innate creativity has a lot of potential, which is why they are very choosy when it comes to designs, materials and colour and texture mix."
"The Middle East promises to be an exciting market for us to enter. It is a very large market in terms of volumes of sales, with very individualistic and mature market trends. On the other hand, the cosmopolitan nature of cities like Dubai provides a microcosmic reflection of the global market trends," said Capistrano. "At the IFJA, we will showcase our products which are in high demand globally, as well as take the opportunity to study the market and structure are future creative and marketing strategies to satisfy this demand."
IFJA, which is to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre along with the International Watch and Clock Fair (IWCF), has already registered strong global participation from designers of fashion jewellery, accessories, watches and clocks designers and traders from Hong Kong, Mexico, Germany, Italy, Taiwan, India, Iran, Philippines, China, South Africa, France, Korea, Egypt, Turkey, Malaysia and the UAE.

Dear Mr. Bill Gates, Reply to me!
This has a reference to my personal appeal letter by an expensive Air Courier service sent to your Corporate office address at Redmond, USA on the 28th December, 2002 with 26 enclosures and a New Year Greeting from one of the Middle Eastern Gulf countries.
To my surprise, it appears, that my courier packet must have got destroyed automatically after undergoing all sorts of security checks and tests by your team (as presumed by a few forums on the net) since I did not get even a single line of acknowledgement from your desk till today for the reasons best known to you.
For the past one year, my several reminders by Emails and Faxes to your US offices did not yield any satisfactory response except repeated automated replies.
Having failed to contact you by any direct means from miles away, through this letter on this web and elsewhere, I would like to draw your attention to the facts put forward to you in the interests of Microsoft and its worldwide operations.
Can someone from your staff or anyone else out there post a reply to this letter suggesting a correct routing so that I can send the appeal to you once again for your personal attention.
Many thanks and best regards.
With Seasons' Greetings,
Winex-the-Pen
The flexible mail infrastructure solution delivers savings of about 40 percent
December 19, 2003. Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC), the leading international IT company, recently revealed "easyXchange", a new-age mail server and storage consolidation solution that helps large and small organizations cut complexity and costs, while streamlining the email infrastructure for higher productivity.
Based on Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and Microsoft's messaging and collaboration platform, easyXchange is powered by FSC's Intel-based PRIMERGY servers and best-in-class storage products to provide a total solution offering content storage and messaging, and automated backup information protection. FSC, which tried out easyXchange as part of a consolidation project to redevelop an internal exchange infrastructure, has estimated overall cost savings of about 40 percent. easyXchange will be available in the Middle East from late December 2003.
"Rising e-mail volumes and the tendency towards increasing Business Critical Computing content in the messaging store is a huge challenge for corporate IT departments. Overflowing mail servers can lead to performance shortfalls, downtime and rising costs. An interruption in e-mail service can directly interfere with business processes, causing a potentially negative impact on a company's performance," said Colin Britto, Sales Manager Large Enterprises, Gulf Region, Fujitsu Siemens Computers.
"An improved consolidation strategy for mail servers and storage can boost availability and enhance performance, while at the same time reducing costs and complexity. easyXchange, which reduces backup and recovery times from hours to minutes, is a cutting edge solution that enables users to vastly increase application and data availability," added Britto. "With the Middle East region adopting critical IT solutions in all areas of business operations, we advice companies to implement the easyXchange solution for improved management of their email systems."
FSC has recently completed the first phase of its own major Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 consolidation project to redevelop an internal Exchange infrastructure. With offices around the EMEA and over 7,000 employees, the company handles a substantial number of e-mails daily. The launch of Microsoft's new Exchange Server 2003 solution - which includes key functions for consolidation - led to FSC's decision to consolidate its mail infrastructure consisting of 60 Servers in about 40 locations on two core Exchange Server sites with less than 10 servers.
