Kovalam Hotel not transferred to M-Far Group
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - Despite the tall claims made by
Dr.P.Mohammed Ali, Managing Director Galfar group of Muscat about misleading
media reports against a genuine property transaction, revenue records
with the concerned authorities show that the Kovalam Palace was not
transferred to M-Far Group. These documents clearly show that only 16.5
hectares out of a total land area of 25.75 hectares owned by Indian
Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) was handed over to the M-Far
group as part of the Ashoka Hotel privatization deal. The transaction
was done through the vizhinjam Panchayath as per the directive of the
district collector. Another startling revelation made by Deepika, one
of the leading Malayalam Dailies, is that the state government lost
a whopping Rs.1 crore stamp duty in this dubious transaction. The transaction
was carried without including more than 9 hectares of land. While the
current media attention is focused on the illegal occupation of just
one palace, many people forget that the whole transaction is mired in
controversy. Today the special committee which is assigned to study
the deal will come out with the report. There could be more surprises
in it. Full Report

"Investigate the "Killing" of our Son,
Urges Gulf Malayali Couple who say it was not at all a "suicide"
Dr. Aliyamma Fen who was responsible
for the mysterious death of Anik Arackal, Alappuzha Medical College
MBBS student is now in deadbody smuggling scandal.
by V.M.Sathish
Anik Arakkal with his parents!
DUBAI - For the last one year, Arackal Poulose Kochappan
and Annie K.Arackal, an unfortunate Gulf Malayali couple living here
have been seeking a thorough investigation into the mysterious death
of their second son, Anik Arakkal, a first year Medical Student of Alappuzha
TD Medical College on September 1, 2003. According to the parents, the
main culprit who was allegedly responsible for the mysterious death
of Anik, Dr. Aliyamma Fen, who headed the Anatomy Department of Alappuzha
Medical College is now at the center of another controversy in the Calicut
Medical College dead body smuggling scandal. Anikh was a brilliant student
of Varkey International School Dubai who passed out from 12th standard
here in the year 2001. His ranking for the Medical Engineering Entrance
was 336 and was made the class representative in the Alappuzha Medical
College. Under mysterious circumstances his dead body was found near
the railway track at Valanjavazhi.
While many Kerala newspapers reported about a "madam"
of Alappuzha Medical College who had a personal tiff with Anikh, not
many people knew that it is the same lady who now faces new corruption
charges. The Alappuzha Medical college witnessed five student "suicides"
and the last victim was the 20 years old Anikh who was born and brought
up in the UAE. It was in September 2003 that Dr.Aliyamma, who had allegedly
harassed the medical student by deliberately giving less mark to 26
students of the same class for internal assessment, was transferred
from the Alappuzha Medical College to Calicut Medical College. Despite
the mystery surrounding the death of Anikh and four other MBBS students
of Alappuzha Medical College within six years, the government action
ended with a mere transfer order to Dr.Aliyamma. It is learned that
the health minister was too keen to protect this lady, who was found
guilty of harassing Anikh and other students. While Anikh was found
dead in a railway track near Valanja Vazhi three days after his disappearance
from the college hostel, another student, the son of an MLA, was found
dead in a Coimbatore lodge. Since the lady is now involved in another
racket involving trafficking of human organs and body, is it not prudent
to conduct a thorough inquiry into these deaths, as demanded by the
Arackal couple? .According to once source, it was a common practice
in Alappuzha Medical College to deliberately fail students in internal
assessments and students would get pass mark, if they pay a certain
amount of money. .Watch this space.

'State Government has no Records', 'Central
Government did not sell Halcyon Castle,' but Dr.P.Mohammed Ali has all
documents to claim that Kovalam Palace was handed over in 1970!!!
Mohammed Ali ready for investigation..but
can we extend such an investigation into all aspects of the deal at
a throw away price?
Amidst the contradictory statements
made by various ministers and the BJP leadership that the Halcyon Castle
was not handed over to the Galfar group, Dr.P.Mohammed Ali, Managing
Director of the M-Far group has claimed in a paid advertisement released
yesterday that the controversial property was handed over by the state
government to the central government in 1970. Showing a brave face hedid
not disclose which state government handed over the palace to ITDC -
Was it the Achuthamenon Government which transferred the property to
ITDC? According to records, it was given to ITDC temporarily and there
was no official document to prove otherwise. And some of the crucial
documents to this effect have mysteriusly disappeared from the state
government records. However, there is no political will from the Antony
government to claim that the property belongs to the state government
because many prominent ministers and senior bureaucrats have been bribed
to buy the property at a throw away price. The government's dilly dallying
on the Kovalam issue itself indicates that several crores have been
used to bribe the ministers and opposition leaders.
Claiming that the various properties
in the Kovalam hotel complex belonged to the ITDC, the entire complex
was transferred to M-Far as per the share transfer agreement of July
10, 2002. Dr.Mohammed Ali has claimed that before the ITDC privatisation
was finalised, the central and state governments had clear communication
to "reach an understanding" on the issue. Even though chief
minister Antony has denied that the state government gave permission
to hand over the Kovalam palace, the Galfar MD claims that the current
controversy about the issue is based on emotional statements by a few
political leaders. Even though Mathrubhoomi, a leading Malayalam daily,
published photographs showing the demolition of the palace compound
wall, Galfar MD has claimed that no one demolished the palace wall.
He said the removal of a retaining wall which was part of the hotel
lobby was depicted as demolition of the palace wall. Claiming legal
right over the entire property including the Halcyon palace, he refuted
all allegations of illegal possession of the property. He has also welcomed
an inqury by a legislative comittee or judicial investigation into the
matter.
Now, can we extend that investigation
into how a premium property worth above Rs.200 crore could be handed
over to the Galfar group at Rs.41 crores? Given the controversy surrounding
Centaur Hotel and Ashoka hotel, cant we extend that investigation into
various hanky panky deals that happened before the deal was finally
signed? Can we also investigate why O.Rajagopalan said the palace was
not handed over to Galfar as part of the Ashoka Hotel deal? And in that
investigation, can we keep out the corrupt ministers and bureaucrats?
Despite the popular protest against the daylight robbery of a public
property, the state government is not taking any steps because many
ministers have been bribed. The studied silence of Mr. Clean Antony
means that he has also got a share of the bribes?

State Government "Did Not Approve" Kovalam
Palace Handover to Galfar: Antony
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - A day after M.M.Hassan, the state
minister who is close to the Galfar group has categorically said that
the Kovalam hotel and the disputed palace have been sold to the private
group, the state chief minsiter A.K.Antony has said that the transaction
was not approved by the state government. A statement issued by Antony,
who has been trying desperately to keep his clean corruption free image,
said the government officials are scrutinising the legal documents.
While O Rajagopal, the former central minister and senior BJP Leader
has been trying to save his face by denying that the Kovalam Palace
was part of the Ashoka hotel privatisation deal, the pro-Galfar ministers
in the state cabinet are trying to shield their mentor. Apparently the
Kovalam controversy has once again exposed the inner contradictions
within the United Democratic Front coalition Government. If the state
government property was sold to the Galfar group without its approval,
how could the company market this property to international tourists?
Given the contradictions in various statements issued by the state ministers
and the BJP leaders the deal needs to be thoroughly investigated. It
should starting with a study on how the profit making hotel turned "sick:"
within a few years and the role of state industrial financial institutions
in the hotel deal. Even though Kerala in general and Kovalam in particular
has been a tourist attraction, how could the Kovalam Hotel incur huge
losses? Read the

Finally Pinaray Opens his Mouth about Kovalam Hotel,
several months after Sitharam Yechuri demanded CBI probe into Centaur
Hotel Deal
Thiruvananthapuram - Meanwhile Pinarayi Vijayan, the
CPIM State Secretary has made a "public statement" demanding
an impartial inquiry into the Ashoka Hotel deal. Breaking a studied
silence maintained by the pro-NRI Business faction of the CPM, Pinarayi
has said that the former BJP Government and the UDF government are jointly
responsible for the privatisation of Ashoka hotel at throw away price.
It may be recalled that the CPI M wing headed by Pinarayi has been silent
about the issue and one of the comrades Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was in
a secret mission to Muscat, Galfar headquarters, for unknown reasons.
The Kovalam issue came to public limelight only because of the keen
interest shown by V.S.Achuthananthan, the firebrand opposition leader.
The two groups had a dispute when the CPM maintained silence and even
encouraged NRI businessman Abdul Wahab who got elected to Rajya Sabha.
Despite being an NRI without voting right, Wahab was elected to the
Rajaya Sabha. The CPM leadership maintained silence because of obvious
reasons. Achuthananthan had opposed the Pinarayi group's attending the
official falicitation programmes for Abdul Wahab. Similarly Pinarayi
Vijayan has been preventing action against another CPI(M) Comrade in
Muscat who has been acting as an agent of the Galfar group. Even though
many complaints have been sent to the CPM higher ups linking the group
with the CPIM Comrades, it was Pinaray who prevented action against
him. Many members of the ISC Kerala Wing, a Muscat associate of the
CPM, had questioned a decision to adorn Dr.P.Mohammed Ali with a ponnada.

As Keralamonitor reported earlier, the Yuva Morcha march
and protest against the Kovalam Hotel issue appears to be a tactics
adopted by the state BJP leadership headed by former central minister
O Rajagopal who is believed to have played a key role in brokering the
multimillion hotel deal. As KM reported Mr. O Rajagopalan was the special
guest of Galfar Mohammed Ali during a "private visit" to Muscat.
It is a known fact that the Kovalam Hotel along with the Ashoka Hotel
was sold out by the former nationalist government of the BJP as part
of its perverted privatization plan. Now the protest marches by the
Yuva Morcha appears to be another political gimmick in the state, which
is witnessing many political stage shows.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan who was in a secret mission to

purchased from a local jeweller. Even though he was ostensibly tried
to solve the problems between MASS and MACC in Dubai, the real purpose
of his mission still remain mysterious. However, it is assumed that
Kodiyeri was brought to Dubai and Muscat to lure a section of the CPM

on and given the circmustantial evidence, it is fair enough to assume

Kovalam Palace march turns violent, DYFI actists lathicharged
Kovalam July 27: The 'Save the Halycon Castle' march
undertaken by the DYFI activists turned unruly, resulting in police
lathicharge yesterday morning. The march from Kovalam junction to the
controversial palace was undertaken by the CPM Youth Wing, demanding
rebuilding of the demolished wall and to protest against the Government
decision to hand over the heritage palace to a private hotel group.
The Kerala Government has been silently moving to hand over the palace,
a precious heritage public property, to the Galfar group of Oman headed
by Dr.P.Mohammed Ali, in a dubious deal. Stones and sticks were thrown
at the police following the police started lathicharge. Following this,
DYFI All India president, K. N. Balagopal, and the CPI(M) leader, Kadakampally
Surendran intervened and calmed down the activists. Following this,
the activists staged a dharna which was inaugurated by Balagopal who
said that BJP government had sold the hotel complex worth several hundred
crore rupees at a 'mere Rs 44 crores' with the silent approval of the
state government. Paradoxically enough, the state BJP Leader O Rajagopalan,
who is believed to have played a crucial role in transferring the property
to the Galfar group is also participating in protest marches. It may
be recalled that the Muslim League minister Nalakathu Soopy and Kunjalikutty
are coming under increased pressure from the Antony faction and Congress.
The agitation against an apparently Muslim League hotel deal assumes
added importance in the state politics. The hotel has been "purchased"

American Soldiers Raped Iraqi Woman like Animals, Dumped
her after six months
Baghdhad - Nadia, the name given by a freed Iraqi female
prisoner to Al-Wasat, a weekly supplement of the respectable London-based
Al-Hayat newspaper, felt it incumbent upon herself to speak out and
expose the less-talked-about abuse of female prisoners in US-run detention
camps across Iraq. According to Islamonline, her visit to a relative
ended up in her detention by American troops..With tears rolling down
her cheeks, she told the paper how she was stripped by her "liberators"
of the most precious thing an Arab and Muslim women can have: Her virginity."A
thrill of fear ran through me when I saw US soldiers laughing hysterically
with a female solider telling me mockingly in an Arabic accent I
never heard about female arms dealer in Iraq," Nadia said."As
I tried hard to explain to her that I was wrongly rounded up, the female
soldier started accosting and kicking me with my cries and pleas falling
on dead ears."She went on: "She gave me a cup of water and
no sooner had I started sipping it than I went into a deep trance to
find myself later naked and raped."Only then
Nadia realized that hard times and an uncertain fate were lying ahead.
And days proved her right. The other day, five soldiers fondled and
raped her one after another in a distasteful sex orgy on the tunes of
culturally offensive heavy metal music."One month later, a soldier
showed up and told me in broken Arabic to take a shower. And before
finishing my bath, he kicked the door open. I slapped him but he raped
me like animals and called two of his colleagues, who forced me to have
sex with them for up to 10 times," added Nadia.
