Lovelorn Chronic Bachelors Taken for an Online Friendship Ride

By V.M.Sathish

DUBAI - Lovelorn bachelors hunting for girlfriends through Internet date portals be careful. Chronic Indian bachelors from the Gulf region - UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - complain that they have been duped by friendship sites which lured them through television advertisements in leading Indian TV channels. The so called friendship sites create hundreds of fake female profiles to lure men into paying money to meet the opposite sex. A simple search through these sites would show hundreds of beautiful women with sexy photographs who are looking for male friendship.

A heavily advertised friendship site www.dosthy.com claims it contains 10,000 male and female profiles. However, some of the victims of the new high tech cheating feel that most of the female profiles in the site are artificially made to lure them and steal their money. "I believe most of these female profiles are created by the company to attract bachelors. There are many profiles of desperate ladies who seek male companion. Many of them are either divorced, live away from their spouses or feel bored and need a male companion immediately," says Joseph, who feel duped after taking a Golden Membership in dosthy.com. He feels cheated because after paying the money (Rs.1500) he did not get a single email from females, who were luring him till he took the membership! Paradoxically enough, the portal was inaugurated by none other than the Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and attended by the former industry minister Kunjalikutty and a crime bursting lady DIG.

Jeevan, another Indian from Dubai says he was lured to the friendship site by advertisements in Jeevan TV and other famous Kerala channels teenage friendship and romantic. "This company, Newclear Vision is running dosthy.com wedkerala.com and other sites. They are also doing 'Mahilasamajam' in Jeevan TV. Currently there are over 15,000 profiles and dozens of successfully married couples through our website and so many marriage negotiations are under progress….." claims one website. Through TV advertisements, the portal has attracted several thousand singles to register for membership charging Rs.1500 to Rs.600. An investigation by this reporter proved that most of the claims are misleading and even though many guys from Dubai and other parts of the UAE and other Gulf countries are duped, they don't wish to disclose their foolishness due to obvious reasons.

"Many advertisements for Wed Kerala.com, Hot Kerala.com, Dosthy.com, etc appear in the TV programs to fool viewers and make money from those sites," says another victim. The sites offer "free" membership with a nick name and password. Once a member, you are free to search for female companions who are already registered. "Once you register for membership, giving your email address, the members will start getting provocative smileys and sexy emails ostensibly from females who will announce their attraction to the new male members. Seeing the beautiful female photographs and the attractive romantic messages filled with sexual overtures, any potential male members will naturally tempted to pay so as to meet the numerous female friends. "This is Sindu..I am not engaged with any kind of works now and so its too borring sitting at home. I would like to go for outing and making good friends is my hobby .....waiting 4 ur reply," says one such message created by a lady desperately seeking sex. "I saw your profile on Dosthy.com and I am interested to get you as my dosth. You are also welcome to go through my profile," says the email from Suvarnadubai, who has sent similar messages to at least six members who contacted this reporter. "Working in a reputed travel company in Dubai.. I am separated because of some family issues...now I am alone here in Dubai..looking for some cool friends to kill my lonliness. (sic)," says another shemail.

"I am working in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and took a membership in dosthy.com to get a female friend. I am sure that they have cheated us. Before joining dosthy, I got around 8 messages from female like, SuvarnaDXB, Nazima Beevi from Kasargod, Salini from Dubai, Shahnas from Malappuram etc. So I got more interest and took a Diamond membership paying Rs.1600. But after paying the money, I never got any reply from them," says Mohammed from Riyadh. "Even though I sent several emails to these girls, there was no response! I think this company is creating female messages to trap interested males and earn money by cheating people," add Ali, another victim. He said the company cheated him on subscription amount which was paid through credit card. "On the web site they offered 37 per cent discount for members who subscribe for gold or diamond membership. However, when I got my bank statement, they charged the full amount from my account," he added. People with ids like fairman (UAE), love me (Unnikrishnan), keralamen .and many of them are from the Gulf region. On hearing about the fraud, this correspondent too made free registration in various friendship and dating sites like dosthy.com, shaadi.com, keralamatrimony.com and Arab friendship sites like Arablongue.com, which started sending similar smiles and messages, ostensibly from females, seeking interest in making friendship. The site managers started sending regular messages advising to become a paid member to avail of all the dating and online friendship facilities available in the site.

When contacted by this correspondent, Renjith, an official of Newclear Visions Pvt. Ltd, Kochi which runs dosthy.com, wedkerala.com hotkerala.com said the allegation is not true and the company is not creating any female profiles. He said there are many genuine people who are registered with the site. The site representative's visit various Gulf countries to canvas customers. We spend Rs.2 lakhs a month for advertising. Answers to detailed questions will be given after consulting the management," he says. According to him all the friendship sites in the world have 20 per cent females and 80 per cent male members. "Not every male can get girlfriends because the females are choosy," he reasoned. "Dosthy.com is the best friendship site with over 10000 registered members in all religion/cast which spread all over the world... Your dream friend will be waiting for you here in dosthy..! Just wait few more hours to make your dreams come true at dosthy.com! As soon as you take the membership, your sweet dreams would turn into nightmares!

Dubai Ajman Police Arrest 32 Members of Prostitution Ring

By V.M.Sathish

DUBAI - Continuing the crackdown on illegal sex traffickers started a few months back, the Ajman and Dubai Immigration Police have jointly arrested 32 young girls, mostly in their 20s and their network of agents in the two emirates and the major financiers who were funding agents to import young girls for the immoral trade. The gang was forcibly keeping Asian girls, mainly from India, and doing illegal prostitution racket. It is learned that the Dubai Police higher authorities have taken a serious decision to control immoral trafficking and depending on the complaints they have been acting swiftly and arresting the culprits.

According to Dubai Police sources, the raid followed complaints from the relatives of a lady who escaped from the brothels. "The lady who escaped from the sex racket was forcibly hijacked by the gang without her consent. Her relatives made a formal complaint with the Dubai police which planned the crackdown. Some of the gang leaders were living in Nuaimi and other places in Ajman. "The root of the sex racket with 20 girls in custody was in Ajman. Salim Alias Fakruddin from Calicut and his female companion Sandhya who acted as supervisor were living in a flat in Ajman," added sources. It is learned that Salim had a narrow escape in the last police raid in Diera. For the last three months, Dubai police have been watching the gang and could arrest them only now. It is also rumoured that the police got information from a rival gang, which runs similar syndicate.

The morning raids were jointly conducted by the Dubai and Ajman police in three buildings located at Yousuf Al Aka, Al Baraha and Fara Madina. The main culprit who has been facilitating visa and finance for the sex traffic syndicate hails from Trichur, Kerala. Those arrested pimps include Salim alias Fakrudhin from Kasargodu, Kannan from Malappuram, Majeed, Kabir alias Ali and Suresh. According to Police sources, the agents spend nearly Dhs.10,000 to import a girl into the UAE and the financier gives fund for the trade. In return they get good reward from the daily collection of each agent. There are such financiers and visa agents who do business running into millions, said sources. The agents trade in the girls and there are many gangs which specialize in the trade, said sources.

"The major financial will also have deals with the tourism companies providing visit visas and housemaid visas to the girls who are lured into the racket through recruiting agents offering decent jobs as beauticians, sales girls and house maids. However, they end up in brothels and lead miserable life. Even during the mensural periods, they are forced to serve customers and some agents give special medicines to stop menstrual periods.

It was only three months back the Dubai Police conducted a similar raid in various illegal brothels in and around Diera, arresting about 37 girls, some of whom were forcefully detained in different flats. The Indian Embassy officials were trying to repatriate more than 30 ladies were stranded in different UAE jails. An Indian lady, Sandhya Lawrence has been running a flat, where some of the arrested ladies were detected by the investigating officials. One of the arrested king pins of the sex racket, Suresh has been living in Dubai with his family. Another lady, Nilambur Ameena alias Muhsina is also involved in the racket, said sources. Some of the arrested ladies were transferred to different jails - some are put in the Al Qooos jail.

The immoral trafficking of young woman from India, especially Kerala is a major problem as many innocent girls have been trapped by these gangs. Recently at least two ladies were rescued from the custody of prostitution rings on the basis of complaints. When the Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other Members of the Legislative Assembly visited Dubai, they could see 13 Keralite woman stranded in various UAE jails after being arrested. Similarly, the Indian Consulate in Dubai tried to deport more than 20 women who were arrested and put behind bars in various jails. Even though the arrested ladies are deported, some of them are brought back to other Gulf countries with fake passports and travel documents. To prevent this, Dubai Police is implementing high tech identity detection systems.

Situated next to the Dubai World Trade Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road and adjacent to the Trade Centre Exhibition Halls, the two triangular towers are a dramatic reminder of the commercial confidence in a city that continues to grow at an astounding rate.
