Young Malayali Artistes perform Arangettam in Muscat
Keralamonitor.com February 9, 2002 MUSCAT An enchanting dance arangetram was performed by seven, budding and talented classical dancers of various Indian schools at the Darsait Temple hall last week. The event was graced by Indian ambassador, K. M. Meena and his wife, Poonam Meena.Dance, as Sharmila Ashokan who compered the show noted, is a lucid form of human expression. And what the young dancers served to achieve was expressing their talents in a highly captivating and artistic form. Despite two other major events in the city --the annual day celebrations of Indian School Darsait and Indian School Muscat, the Temple hall was reasonably full to watch the young artistes performing their arangettam.
Dignitaries like Mohammed Munaf, former Test cricketer of Pakistan and also a popular Ghazal singer and his wife, Naseem Munaf, chairman of Humanitas, a non-governmental Humanitarian organisation of Netherlands were also present. The dancers were Shivapriya Viswam, Sanjana Mohandoss, Atulya Sebastian, Amalshree Sarasan, Banisha Balan, Shilpa Suresh, Abhishek Anand and G. Radhika Ganesh who are disciples of Santha Krishnankutty, a well known dance teacher in Muscat.
Santha Krishnankutty, the dance teacher is a known dance teacher here learnt the basics of dance from Panamattom Radhadevi ; bharatnatyam from R.L.V. Sarojam and Kalamandalam Susheela, mohinyattam from the great guru Kalyanikuttiama. She has had a special training in kuchipudi from Kalamandalam Susheela. She was also the director of the dance school Nritta Kalakendram.
All of the dancers did their guru and parents proud as they spun the well-attended gathering in a mesmeric web of bhava, raga, tala and natyam. The accompanying artists, which included Santha (natavangam), Thalavady Krishnankutty (vocal), Umesh Kumar (violin), Sundaresan (mridangam) and Rajeev Menon (Ghattam), also did full justice.
Sharmila Ashok Balan, the compere, took the audience into the intricacies of the dances and also explained in detail each dance form; introduced the artistes and kept the flow on.
The young artists performed three different dance forms bharatnatyam, kuchipudi and mohiniyattam. The event took off with a group bharatnatyam by Sanjana, Shivapriya, Atulya Sebastian and Amalshree. The second group dance kuchipudi was performed by Banisha, Shilpa, Abhishek, and Radhika. The youngest of the lot, Shivapriya did a solo bharatanatyam padam. Shivapriya, who aspires to be a professional dancer in the future, is a grade II student of the Indian School Darsait.
Sanjana, a grade III student of Indian School Muscat, performed a bharatanatyam number a ragamalika in aadi taalam. Sanjana, whose interests are in music and dance, has vowed to follow her dream to be a great artiste.
Banisha, a grade VIII student of Indian School Wadi Kabir, followed with a lovely varnam, decidedly the central piece of a bharatanatyam repertoire. According to the compere, it was a "true test of a dancer's skill and mastery'.Banisha, apart from being a dancer is also a voracious reader.
Atulya, a grade IX student of ISM, who wishes to be a teacher, set her foot to the beat of another bharatanatya padam.
Amalshree, a grade V student of ISD, also followed with a bharatnatyam solo. Amalshree, is a talented writer, who has already set her sights to become a doctor.
Shilpa, a grade IX student of ISM, performed the ragamalika. Shilpa, whose hobbies include reading and playing scrabble hopes to be an engineer. Then an intricate, joint footwork delight, jatiswaram, was provided by the dancers, Sanjana, Sivapriya, Atulya, and Amalshree.
The only boy in the group, Abhishek unveiled his bharatnatyam repertoire. Abhishek, a grade IX student of ISM, is interested in art, music and basketball, and hopes to join the medical fraternity in the future. If the dancer was not introduced in advance, audience would have left the temple hall thinking that they watched another sensational dancing girl of Muscat. Abhishek's performance showed that a boy too can become a good classical dancer. Apparently, he is an aspiring superstar of Malayalam films who is being nurtured with all the necessary skills.
Radhika also put up a fine performance with her bharatnatyam solo, which was followed by Banisha's mohiniyattam. Then Sanjana, Shivapriya, Atulya, Amalshree, also came together for a group dance. The thillana item, which is usually the concluding piece of any bharatnatyam recitalwas executed by Sanjana, Sivapriya, Atulya, Amalshree, Banisha, Shilpa, Abhishek, and Radhika.
Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) upgrades customer service
February 9, 2002 Keralamonitor.com
Dubai; In an effort to streamline its internal processes and provide enhanced services to its customers and suppliers, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) has completed a major upgrade of its financial system. The solution, which was executed by Hyperlink, involved the implementation of a centralized Oracle Financials Version 11i system using the new multi-organization feature of the application. The upgrade has enabled ADWEA to achieve operating excellence in managing information across the group and providing support to its end users.
Oracle Applications version 10.7, the legacy system at ADWEA, was spread across 11 companies as isolated processes. The upgrade involved integrating these disparate systems under one central Oracle Financials Solution version 11i, for the modules General Ledger, Accounts Payables, Cash Management and Fixed Assets. Due to the change from a decentralized to centralized solution, the project involved a fresh re-implementation of all modules and a conversion exercise from the existing 11 systems.
"Hyperlink is indeed delighted to have provided the upgrade for ADWEA. We believe in using technologically-proven methodologies and standards to ensure the quality and consistent delivery of products and services provided to our customers," according to an official spokesperson from Hyperlink. "ADWEA has always been a progressive organization in adapting cutting-edge technologies and robust IT solutions. We hope that this strategic partnership with a reputed institution like ADWEA is the beginning of a long and fruitful association."
The implementation by Hyperlink included the choice of SUN as the base platform to hold the full solution. In addition, the technical architecture consisted of two application servers linked to one database server as part of a cluster and a load balancing solution to manage the accessibility to the application servers. The technical components of the solution were vital to meeting the identified objectives and to the successful completion of the project.
The centralization of financial operations has allowed ADWEA to increase efficiency of its payables cycle and bank reconciliation transactions, in addition to establishing control over its fixed asset management and shortening of its financial reporting process while minimizing end user support response time. Following this implementation, ADWEA is in a better position to manage its technical maintenance activities.Apart from the operational benefits, ADWEA is also able to reduce its total cost of ownership as it has consolidated its technical platform and end user support activities. Hyperlink was established in 1997 to provide business solutions to medium and large-scale organizations through the implementation of enterprise-wide applications and decision support systems in the Middle East and North Africa.
