UAE Police help arrest two Pakistanis who murdered two Omani women

Dubai-August 18, 2001.Concluding a sensational dual murder case two Pakistani expatriate criminals who killed an Omani women and her young daughter, were arrested by the Oman and UAE police jointly . According to UAE Police sources, the Boarder police (Al Ain and Ajman stations) have helped Omani law enforcement authorities to arrest Pakistani criminals who were hiding in the UAE after committing the crime.More

Chennai: The controversial manner in which various Indian Schools in the Gulf recruit teaching and other staff was revealed once again when one of the senior members of an Interview Board in Chennai (for an Indian School in Oman ) has been alleged to have demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 (Fifty thousand) from a candidate for the post of teacher (salary RO 150 per month.)...Full Report

Ten arrested for kidnapping Malayali girls from Gulf airports

August 6,2001 Dubai and Muscat: Giving another sensational dimension to the growing female trafficking from Kerala to various Gulf countries, two Malayali ladies from Trichur, were kidnapped and illegally kept in brothels. One of the girls was sold by a Malayali agent to another brothel just for Omani Rial 300 (Rs.35,000)!The Royal Oman Police have arrested more than 10 Indians, majority of them Malayalis including 2 women who have been involved in kidnapping the Malayali girls from the Seeb International airport, Muscat and forcing them to work in brothels.Full Report

 Even when the amnesty scheme has been going on and the controversy surrounding the suicide of an expatriate worker here, the negative role played by Indian recruitment agents is under the scrutiny of the Indian Embassy and the local authorities. Recently the embassy has summoned another recruiting agent from Oman, Ms Abu Khalfan al Kindi Trading Establishment, which has allegedly duped more than 30 people with the help of other Indian travel agents. According to a complaint dated 23 June 2001 submitted by eight Indian workers to the embassy, they were brought to Oman offering lucrative jobs in different companies in return for huge amount of money.More

Absconding Case

Nassar Puthuparampil Shams, Indian Passport Number A3420576 is reported to be absconding from his job since June 2001. Nassar is allegedly absconding from his job as Sawarma maker (a type of Arab sandwich). Basateem Seema Trading Company owners Khalifa bin Saloom bin Kalfan al Hadrami informed the labour office. Nasser is given fifteen days time from June 20 to dispute the allegation and report his case to the Labour Ministry of Oman.

About 50 Indian housemaids commit suicide due to ual harassment. Indian recruitment agents do a lucrative business by bringing innocent girls and virtually "selling them" as housemaids....Watch this space for more details.


Indian Social Club withdraws Malayalam Wing suspension.

MUSCAT - The Indian Social Club (ISC), the sole social organisation working under the Indian Embassy in Muscat to represent the 3 lakh strong Indian Community in Oman has withdrawn the temporary ban imposed on ISC Malayalam Wing, the most powerful lingustic wing which is working under the jurisdiction of the parent club.

According to ISC Malayalam wing members, the ban was a punishment for making public statements demanding a ban on companies like Stag Enterprises which violate labour laws without the “permission” of the parent body.

Thottumukhathu Abdulla Bashir (50 years), Kochi died early morning on Sunday in Musat due to heart attack. The deceased has acted in two Malayalam films -Kalachakram and Chukku-and has been working in Al Fair Supermarkets, Oman. He is survived by his wife Sareena and sons Nihad and Suhail. He was the arts club secretary of Ernakulam Maharajas college .
