Bahrain plans GSM Expansion

Manama: Bahrain Telecommunication Company (Batelco) and Ericsson have signedcontracts for the further expansion of Batelco's existing GSM network and its upgrade to GPRS. An agreement is also in place to begin EDGE.Moretrials in the secon half of 2002.

Muscat --Most of the members representing the business lobby in the board of directors of Indian Schools in Oman including the chairman Kiran Ashar have sent their resignation to the patron, the Indian Ambassador K.M. Malayali Brothers Absconding with RO 30,000 from Chit Fund Subscribers In yet another cheating case large number of ordinary Malayali workers and small scale businessmen in the Al Khuwair area of Oman are duped by a chit fund company run by two brothers who have been absconding with huge amount of money. According to victims, most of them Malayalis, one Mr.N.N.Rajan and his brother N.N. Sathyan, who were running a barber shop in the Al Khuwair area have been absconding for the last few days with at least Omani Rial 30,000, which is equivalent to Indian Rupees thirty six lakhs.

Despite multicrore revenue from Indian schools, they are not making any profit!
The excessive fees charged from ordinary Indian parents is a direct fall out of business interest in school matters. "Exorbitant fees are charged by Indian schools. One school is charging even at primary level RO 30 (equivalent to Indian Rupees 3,600) per month. According to one estimate, the total tuition fees alone collected every month from 14000 students of 3 Indian schools in Muscat area comes to approximately RO 2,90,000 --roughly equivalent to Indian Rupees 3 crores) per month. "Hardly half of the fee income is needed to meet a month's total expenses like salaries etc.

Gulf Embassies to Counter fake passport racket through computerisation

Dubai/Muscat -In order to face the growing problem of fake passport and visas issued by an international gang which operates from India and various Gulf countries, the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi are implementing a pilot project o computerise consular services in eight Indian embassies in the Gulf. Soon the Consular General of India, Dubai will start issuing computerised passports and visas on a trial basis. Consular General of India, Dubai issues the largest number of passports outside India and provide largest number of consular services per day from the Gulf region. ..Full Report

Bahrain to replace 15,000 expatriate workers with nationals

Manama-Muscat: Large number of Malayali workers in supermarkets, restaurants and small enterprises in the Gulf region are worried about the new mood in the region.
