November 28, 2002 Kerala Monitor.com KM Replies to allegations of criminal record Editor KM Why our journalists support the poor? We have a criminal background? Here is the Answer Dear Members of the Indian Community in the Gulf. It was reported by keralamonitor.com (KM) that the management committee meeting of ISD was adjourned after heated discussions. "We would like to inform our readers that the information given by KM is absolutely wrong and totally baseless. What kind of journalism is this? Working hand-in-glove with an individual to protect him? they asked. While they have raised such doubts about the credibility of our report, the new monitor has not touched other crucial issues which are discussed in the report. They have not disputed the fact that nearly 300 students could not pay fees on time; the plan to convert six class rooms into a lab; that the teachers day celebration was held in a Five Star Hotel. They have not reacted to any other aspects raised by Sugathan Gopalan. Except targeting him personally, the so called parents and community leaders remain silent about the crucial issues raised by KM. We reiterate our policy that KM i s not with anybody -we uphold some basic principles!
Readers find out for themselves whether what KM reported is "absolutely wrong and totally baseless" as claimed by the above report. We know what is responsible journalism and the story is based on the minutes of the meeting which was approved by Mr.K.S.Visruthan, A.V.Shahul Hameed, George Mathew, Y.Mohandas, Abdul Rahim Kassim, Karma Chandran, P.Ranji Kuruvila, Sugathan Gopalan and Dr.S.A.Pillai the School principal. What we reported was totally documented in a document duely signed by the school president K.S.Visruthan. The last item on the minutes reads : "The president read out a letter addressed to him by Sugathan Gopalan. All the members except Sugathan Gopalan found the matters described are completely incorrect and as such is a shameful for any member to write such a letter...The heated arguement that followed resulted in adjourning the meeting with unpleasentness to every member." So did KM do a baseless and incorrect report? This has been the pattern of the school management committee meetings and the dispute between Sugathan Gopalan on the one hand and other committees together have been getting murkier in recent times.
Is the following document of a school meeting in October 1995 also given to KM by Sugathan Gopalan? The Answer is a Big No. Such documents are occasionally leaked out to media by the committee members themselves as part of their internal power struggle. KM reserves the right to use whatever documents leaked out to us. In fact the below document was leaked out to us by one of the close friends of Mr.K.S.Visruthan, the ISD president because his old friends were not happy to see him occupying a hot seat, when all other oldies have left their posts.
The above document clearly shows the current ISD President occupying a prominent position in the Indian School Darsait Management Committee in October 1995. This means that he was appointed to the school committee along with all others who have resigned from the post as they exceeded the regular period in office. This evidence is contrary to what has been informed to the school patron the Indian Ambassador by the school management. There are so many similar cases which KM will be releasing. The source of this school committee meeting minutes is one of the members who had worked all along with the current ISD president.
