Goons Smash the principals' Car

Muscat --In an unprecedented development, unidentified goons have smashed the car of Indian School Muscat Principal M.M.Joshi, the recipient of best teacher award from the CBSE. According to informed sources, the principal's car was smashed two days back and the attack may be a violent manifestation of something messy happening in the ISM, with a student strength of 6000. Well known as a good academician and administrator, Joshi apparantly estranged some elements surrounding the school premises.

While people give conflicting views about the incident, one thing is sure -that something is wrong in the functioning of Indian School Muscat. It is also learned that the Police are investigating the case to identify the culprits. While some people say the attack occurred in the night and the car was parked near his house located behind the ISM, other sources said a group of students is behind the attack. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the attack happened within the school premises itself. 'Mr.Joshi is one of the best principals of Indian School Muscat and there is no reason why his car should be smashed. Definitely, some antisocial elements are behind this attack,' said a prent residing in Darsait.

It was only in September 2001 that the Principal of Indian School Muscat, was honoured for his brilliant and excellent work in the field of Education. Mr. Joshi received the prestigious CBSE Award for Best Teacher from the Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development, Mr. Murli Manohar Joshi at Delhi. Mr. Joshi was praised and complimented for his outstanding work. He has played a pivotal role and contributed immensely towards raising the standard of education. Mr. Joshi's commitment to this profession spanning 35 glorious years. Already a recipient of many awards including the Best Teacher Award conferred on him by the Government of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Joshi has proved that to him the sky is the limit. The honour to Mr. Joshi was an honour for ISM and the whole school is proud of him.

While this view is shared by many, there are others who felt that the principal's strict "behaviour' with students caused the attack. 'The backside glass of the car is totally smashed,' said one sources. "The car is totally damaged,' added another resident. Most of the Indian Schools here are having a peaceful environment. However, the ISM surroundings are filled with gang of students and outsiders who specialise in eve teasting and aother anti social activities. Character-building is said to be the hallmark of the Students’ Council and Prefectorial System of the school, which is one of the largest Indian schools in the Gulf. Even though violent student behaviour is unknown, there are isolated cases in the past. If the attack is by a group of students, much needs to be done to improve the character building of the future generation.

The law enforcement authorities have been undertaking a campaign to control youth vandalism and damaging public and private property. In the ISM area, offsprings of high networth Indians gangs move around in sports cars and sometimes cause nuisance. Some misguided young Omani youths have been going around destroying public property. In some specific areas, some anti-social elements destroy the car parked outside or remove the tyre.

It is also suspected that the attack on the school principal, who is on the board of ISM, is related to the ongoing power struggle between various lobbies. 'There had been similar incidents in the past when one particular group used to terrorrise senior officials involved in school activities. In this case also there is a possibility that someone is trying to scare the ISM Principal," said sources.
