Doha; Accident Care and Transport Services (ACTS), a Kerala based charity organisation has set up a division in Doha, Qatar. According to Dr Davis Chiramel, its founder and general secretary, ACTS was formed to aid accident victims, mainly road accidents who are in need of emergency medical aid. Since the public hesitates to rush such people to hospitals Dr Davis came forward with the idea to form district committees to support the activities of the organisation. A committee of expatriates from the Thrissur district of Kerala was formed and other district committees will be formed. The Qatar chapter has Dr Mohan Thomas as president and K P Abdul Hameed as patron.
Bangladesh School Parents in Saudi Arabia agitated
Riyadh: After all the controversies created by the Indian and Pakistani schools in Saudi Arabia, it seems to be the tunr of Bangladesh International School (BIS-English Section).A section of parents went to the extent of organizing a press conference to announce that the current School Management Committee is not accountabile for lavish spending and budgeting. The new committee has spent SR40,000 (more than Rs.4 lakhs Indian Rs.) alone on photocopying during the last six months. Parents allege misappropriation of school funds in this manner.
The committee has presented a school budget showing a deficit of SR368,000. But parents said that the school accounts lack transparency and the BIS managing committee has been reluctant to publish school accounts. The new committee has sacked several teachers recruited by the former committee. Dr. Mohammad Abdur Rahman, former chairman of BIS managing committee, alleged that many qualified teachers recruited by the previous committee have been sacked by the present committee making way for appointing friends and relatives.
