The Kelly affair A haunted man But why did Kelly have to die? Asks the Observer, UK in an exclusive Report about the mysterious death or a biological weapons scientist
Sunday July 20, 2003 The Observer
No one at the Waggon and Horses pub opposite Dr David Kelly's house in the quiet Oxfordshire village of Southmoor saw Britain's leading expert on biological weapons go out at 3pm last Thursday, although they knew him by sight. He stopped in for a drink there occasionally, but was more likely to go to the nearby Hind's Head, where he was a member of the pub cribbage team and where he sometimes ate with his wife, Janice. Even there, though, he was hardly a drinker, sipping a mineral water while others downed pints. Paul Weaver, a local farmer, did see him, however. He greeted Kelly as he strode through the fields north of the A420 close to his home, but there was nothing to indicate he was troubled. 'He smiled and said hello,' Weaver recalled. Kelly's route was a familiar one to the keen rambler, cutting across the gentle rolling countryside of fields and copses that lay between his home village and Longworth, two miles away. It would have taken him at least an hour to walk across the fields, sodden after rain. But in Longworth, too, he passed unnoticed as he tramped through the pretty village that sits on a the crest of a hill. Full Report

Gulf War Vet admits setting oil-well fires under U N command
DURING the past six years, the American Gulf War Veterans Association has received numerous reports from veterans [as has this website] stating that US forces were responsible for the setting of the oil well fires at the end of the Gulf War. One veteran has now stepped forward and given a detailed account of how he and others in special teams, moved forward of the front, behind enemy lines ahead of US forces, set explosive and incendiary charges on the well heads, and remained hidden until after the charges were remotely detonated and US forces advanced beyond their position. Is The US Lying About Al-Qaida Captures Too?
Early this year, just when the American public is concerned that war with Iraq will mean a diversion from the war on terror, Khalid Sheik Mohammed - a really big fish is captured. Too bad the US forgot they had reported his death in October of 2002. Worse yet they then publicized two different faces of Khalid and in an unprecedented Pakistani press conference, journalists were shown film of the arrest but with any missing heads! Even CNNs Tom Minter didnt buy into this one.And how can we forget Abu Zubaydah? When the Bush Administration was desperate to show progress after months had gone by with no arrests for September 11 (other than Zacarias Moussaoui who was in custody at the time 911 occurred), Al-Qaida leader Abu Zubaydah is said to be arrested. Curiously, we have never seen a picture of him either other than a much outdated FBI wanted picture. Soon afterwards, we have heard how so many terrorist attacks have been foiled, based on intelligence provided by Zubaydah, which alone shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Al-Qaida and the allegiance of its members. During his alleged arrest there was a fierce gun battle and our sources claim he was killed during that shoot out. Full Report
Suicide ? What Really Happened?
First off, there was no mention yesterday of either a slashed left wrist or a knife, or the copious amounts of blood which would have to be present from death by slashed wrist. Second, a slashed wrist is not necessarily a suicide, but could easily be a murder made to look like a suicide. Frankly, the flood of "Gee, he was depressed" that preceded the announcement is itself cause for suspicion. Finally, this was a man for whom the ordeal before Parliament was already OVER. He was out of trouble and only months away from retirement. Why would he commit suicide NOW? And why try to commit suicide using the slowest method possible, out on the open, where he might be seen and stopped, as opposed to renting a motel room with a bed and bathtub? How could Kelly know that, once he was unconscious, a passer by might not spot him and call for an ambulance?
Iran rejects report of enriched uranium find
TEHRAN, July 19-- Iran on Saturday denounced a report that International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors had found enriched uranium in environmental samples taken in the country as "suspicious and vague". "This type of forged news is suspicious and vague, since it is up to the IAEA to make comments on this issue, not diplomats who have no accurate information about it," the official IRNA news agency quoted Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi as saying. A western media cited unnamed diplomats as alleging that samplestaken from a nuclear facility in Natanz, central Iran, showed Tehran has been enriching uranium without informing IAEA.

Join KM Discussion on Minority Politics in Kerala
It is true that the Kerala Minorities are not same as other states' minorities. Here Muslims through caste politics and others through organized way have greater influence on the Kerala social life. Of course other communities have complaints, apprehensions, doubts and feelings. This is a known fact and all other communities agree to that also. Vellalsabha, Deevarasabha, Ishavas, Vellapally, RajaGopal and others have agreed to the statement of Chief Minister. Instead of murmuring and making hue and cry, Muslim league and other organized minorities should try to remove these apprehensions from the minds of other communities. Bush points finger at CIA over Iraqi Weapons Documents
The White House has blamed the US Central Intelligence Agency over a false accusation that Iraq tried to buy uranium from Africa. President Bush said on Friday his charge that Iraq had tried to buy nuclear material from Niger had been approved by his "intelligence services", and US national security adviser Condoleezza Rice said the CIA had confirmed the specific wording of the statement. The White House acknowledged this week it had been a mistake to say Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein had been trying to get African uranium because documents alleging a transaction between Iraq and Niger were found to have been forged. British Government Alerts Citizens about possible Chemical, Biological Weapons Attack in Oman
London -There remains a high threat to British individuals and organisations in the region. Terrorist attacks could involve the use of chemical and biological materials. Following three suicide bombings in Riyadh on 12 May, there remains a high threat of further large or small scale attacks against western interests in the region, announced the UK Government travel advise to its nationals living and travel to Oman. Although no incidents have occurred which directly affected British nationals, we believe that Oman, in common with all the Gulf region, is a place where the threat to British individuals and organisations from terrorism is high. Terrorist attacks in the region could involve the use of chemical and biological materials. Driving at night can be dangerous outside Muscat, as there is a risk of hitting camels that stray on the road. Rental and company vehicles particularly are vulnerable to robbery in the Thumrait, Marmul and Nimr area of Southern Oman. There was a spate of such incidents in 2002 although vehicle theft appears to be the motive and so far victims have been unharmed. People renting cars should take advice on security from hire companies before undertaking travel. Full Report

Grave Medical Mistakes in the Gulf Hospitals
Medical Mistakes - One leading doctor was conducting a complicated neurosurgery on an Omani patient. Everything was going on perfectly until the doctor realized that the tumour in the brain was missing after the patients head was split open. The X-Ray of the patient's skull showed the presence of a major tumour, which was supposed to be removed through surgery. Oh, no it was a mistake. The tumour is in the other side of the brain, pointed out a staff assisting the expert doctor. Now, the doctor had to split open the other side of the patients head and complete the surgery. The doctor is heading the neurology department of a leading Government Hospital in Muscat. Two such incidents have happened in the same hospital and the same doctor. Similarly, a patient who had a major fracture on one of the legs was undergoing a surgery. After splitting open the leg, the doctor could not identify the fracture on the bone, which was clearly shown in the X-Ray. Oh, it was yet another mistake, the doctor was operating the wrong leg. Such incidents are rarely reported in the Gulf media..Watch this space.

Localisation in full Swing, but Indian Nursers are prevented from seeking better job opportunities!
Now the UK Hospitals have stopped recruiting Indian nurses from Oman due to strictures from the British Government through local Missions. A few Keralite nurses working in the Government hospitals received a disappointing message that a recruiting agency is unable to select them for nurses job in the UK due to intervention from the concerned ministries. Even though the Government prevented British recruiting agents from conducting interviews within the country, many nurses used to go to Dubai and attend job interviews. Meanwhile, it is learned that nearly 1000 senior expatriate nurses, mainly Keralites are being sacked or terminated. While the Government is officially following this localisation drive, why should it prevent the same people from seeking better chances elsewhere. There is no job security for nurses. Why prevent these people from grabbing the available job openings elsewhere.. Watch this space.

By Paul Lashmar, Andy McSmith and James Morrison06 July 2003
Iraq's missing weapons of mass destruction are opening a dangerous "credibility gap" between the Government and the public, a former intelligence chief has warned. The remarks by Dame Pauline Neville-Jones, former head of the joint intelligence committee, suggest that even if Downing Street wins its row with the BBC, questions about the origins of the Iraq war will remain unanswered. Dame Pauline, who is also a BBC governor, suggested as long as coalition forces fail to uncover chemical, biological or nuclear weapons, questions will be asked about why troops were sent to war. "If you tell people you are going to war because there is an imminent threat to national security, and then in the aftermath nothing is found, it opens up a credibility gap of a kind which is dangerous in a democracy," she said in an interview with BBC News 24.Full Report
