Muscat--Out of 18 artists who have participated in senior
Bharatanatyam section Vijana Vasudevan emerged victorious by
obtaining the much coveted first prize. While, Kavya Madhusadan
got the second prize and Rakhe Raveendran got the third prize.
The performance of some of the non prize winning artists was
not bad.
On the second day of the Indian Social Club Kerala wing Keralolsavam
competitions, Sruthi R.Bhadran has bagged the first prize in
junior Bharatanatyam (B group) -- on the first day she bagged
first prize in two classical dance items - Koochippudi and Mohiniyattam
. Sruthi has been a regular first prize winner in classical dance
programmes of the Indian Social Club Malayalam Wing, consecutively
for the last five years. Now she will participate in seven more
items like group folk dance, light and classical music, drama
song, recitation. Irrespective of their affliation to two linguistic
wings, members of both the wings and non members are actively
taking part in the competitions.
Rishna Raveendran, another promising classical dancer, stood
second and Anjali Sebastian got the third prize in Junior B Bharatanatyam.
There was intense competition for the junior Bharatnatyam in
which 22 girls participated. In Bharatanatyam Junior B section,
Akhila Soman got the first prize followed by Anjana Subhash Menon
in second place and Stepen Sabu getting the third prize. These
three winners also came first in a fierce competition in which
15 girls participated.

Muscat -- On the first day of the competitions
at the Indian School Muscat hall on January 23, 2002, a large
number of budding Malayali artists participated. According to
the organizers about 1500 artists will compete for first, second
and third position in the junior, subjunior and adult categories.
Various cultural events organised by the Indian Social Club,
Kerala Wing as part of its major 'Keralotsavam' has evoked keen
interest among the art loving Malayali community.

the best classic dancer
In the Mohiniyattam Senior level, Vijana
Rani Vasudevan got the first place followed by Raghee Raveendran
in second and Parvathi Ajith in third positions respectively.
In the junior Kuchippudi competition, the winner is no doubt
Sruthi R.Bhadran, the budding talent, who has been a regular
winner of dance competitions from the Indian Social Club, Malayalam
Wing. Nobody was surprised to know that Sruthi stood first in
the junior Mohiniyattam competitions too.
On the first day of the Keralotsavam
competitions itself, she has bagged two coveted first prizes
in classical dance. Anchana Nanda, a promising classical dancer,
has bagged the second prize in Mohiniyattam followed by Anjali
Sebastian who stood third. According to the judges, who made
their comments immediately after the competition publicly, all
the artists who participated in dance competitions have performed
well and even the three prize winners need to improve their dancing
skills. The judges have also announced the plus and minus points
noticed in the performance of each artist. In junior Koochippudi,
Anjali Sebastian stood second followed by Aishwarya Surendran.

Out of 19 participants in light music
(adult category), Rajee Rajan got the first prize followed by
Suresh Kumar P.B. and Janardhanan in second and third positions
respectively. The interesting fancy dress competition, in which
items ranging from the Anthrax scare in the United States following
Bin Laden attack to the traditional 'Mannan" (coconut climber)
and fisherman of Kerala. In this section, Anil Kumar stood first
followed by Geetha Vijayan (second) and Aiysha Jaleel (third
position).

In Mono Act, another interesting item,
Niveditha Madhavan got first prize in subjunior level followed
by Aishwarya Vinayasekhar, second and Sreerak M third. In dance
song adult group, Suresh Kumar P.B. stood first, followed by
Suresh Kumar and Aisha Dileep.

Kumar
ISC Kerala Wing will organise Keralolsavam
2002 from February 13 to February 15. The event will be accompanied
by a number of Kerala style events associated with a normal festival.
Leading panchavadhya artist, Kathakali artist Mattannor Shankaran,
Kalamandalam Mohan Kumar and others will visit Muscat during
the festival, which will be held at an open space in Rose Garden,
Qurm, in Muscat. The three day competitions started on January
23. Various items like music, art, classical and folk dances,
recitation, literary items etc are added.
The classical dance section consists
of Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Kuchippudi, and folk dance. In
addition clasical and music, drama songs, mono acts, fancy dress,
short story and essay writing, poetry, elocution, kathaprasangam
etc will be held.
