Prominent Non Resident Indians, One Ambassador and 27 MPS

New DelhiTwenty seven MPs ( Most Prominent and not Member of Parliament) Non Resident Indians (NRIs) have been too much disturbed and worried about the Indian community and the presence of the most troublesome man in Muscat, the Indian Ambassador K M Meena.

According to 27 people Meena has been working against the community interest! He was the root cause of all their problems.

According to these 27 MPs, this man has created maximum trouble for the five lakh strong Indian community in Oman! His sins include urging schools which charged unreasonably high fees to reduce it to a level affordable to large number of ordinary parents (none of the 4,99,973 other NRIs) had problems with the ambassador or his policies and his decision to involve parents in deciding the fate of their children and their education. He wanted school students to get the best and cheap sourcing of school stationary, books and uniforms. He did not want big businessman to make money from school books, stationary and uniforms or even take bribe from recruiting teachers.

First time in the history of Indian community these twenty seven people who represent prominent business houses have been so much worried about the problems created by the ambassador! He has proved to be entirely different from some of his predecessors who used to win, dine and sign on dotted lines suggested by the Big NRI businessmen.

Ahmed, two MPs who had interest in helping the private school promoters, former foreign minister of Indian, Yaswanth Sinha rejected the file about George Mathews private school three times! His advise was to run Indian Schools as per local rules. The Indian Ambassador was simply doing this!

According to preliminary invetigation by Keralamonitor.com many of the people who had complaints against the ambassador have come from nowhere and their voice was never heard by anyone in the Indian community here. Apparently they are all employees of leading business houses which have considerable stake in removing the ambassador. Most of the members have some sort of links with the two business houses which run private schools illegally.

There are 5 lakh Indians in Oman and the MEA is transferring a sincere official just on the basis of a vague complaint lodged by 27 people belonging to two major companies with clear vested interest?

Building Up Case Against Meena by Pravasi Leaders

Just one week before the much publicised Pravasi Sammelan in New Delhi, 27 MPs from Muscat have sent email messages to the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi as per the advise of prominent NRI businessmen and a senior IFS official who was against K.M. Meena and his pro- community actions.

The complaints ranged from issues like the ambassador's excessive involvement in school matters - read his polices that harmed the interest of two big NRI business houses and some other vague issues. There is no specific complaint and the Minister of External Affairs is moved by their grievance.
Yaswanth Singh

Why did these 27 MPs became too much concerned about the Indian community issues just one week before the Pravasi Sammelan in New Delhi, which was meant to be a meeting of prominent NRIs and People of Indian origin.

Everybody knows who all represented Oman in the Pravasi Sammelan. Even though there was a scramble to get the pravasi sammelan award among the top two or three NRI businessmen from Muscat, all the prominent NRI businessmen shared a common objective in New Delhi. Develop a strong case against the Indian Ambassador and get him removed as soon as possible.

The senior Ministry of External Affairs officials also gave the necessary advise in the "Remove Meena " Campaign. Who are these people who have serious complains about the Indian Ambassador Meena ? anybody knows about their whereabouts? Watch this space to see their real identity. Can you disclose the name of 30 MPs who have complained against K.M.Meena and supported a brave NRI?

KERALAMONITOR OWNED BY K.M.MEENA?

Keralamonitor.com is owned by K.M.Meena, the Indian Ambassador, says one of the complaint made by the 27 MPs to the Ministry of External Affairs New Delhi. We are sure that anyone who knows about KM journalists and its origin would laugh at such perverted comments.

While KM team would have been proud, if it is owned by a person like K.M.Meena who has been sympathetic to the cause of weak and downtrodden, the poor and not so affluent sections of Indian community. He stood for the ordinary parents who cannot express their views freely . The big businessmen who wanted to remove him, have been sucking the parents blood by squeezing out huge amount of money from the community schools. These same set of people had earlier accused KM of getting money for writing "favourable reports"!

Going by their logic, they should now accuse that Meena owns Khaleej Times and Malayala Manorama, two leading newspapers which have already highlighted his views at least in the last minute of his premature retirement and wrote favourable reports. Raveendra Nadh of Khaleej Times and Anil Edukkula of Manaorama must have got huge amount of money from the Indian Ambassador for writing "favourable" reports! Fortunately, the community leaders have not made this awkward remark this time because they realize the power of big media houses. Even though KM is a start up venture, which is only 2 years old, it enjoys considerable trust and loyalty of ordinary Indian community in the Gulf. The fact that we receive more than 60,000 page views in a month indicates its growing popularity. According to the latest server report from May 2003, from 1 May to 7 May, there were 108,317 successful file requests from KM server. There were 14,395 Successful requests for pages. Those who know about the data will realize the growing popularity of KM.

The growth of KM into a major portal is attributed to the bold stand that we have taken against grave injustice done against ordinary parents, teachers and the ordinary members of the Indian community in the Gulf. Cynics like the heads of business houses can have their own perverted views about media freedom. The local media, which is supposed to reflect the problems and issues of commom parents, have been very efficiently silenced by these business barons.

Local Media Silenced

Despite high altitude talks about improving media freedom and providing more freedom to journalists to highlight serious issues, a section of the local media has been totally campaigning against the Indian Ambassador and his pro poor policies in Indian schools. We would like our journalist friends to make a self introspection as to whether what they have been doing or not doing is correct. Even newspapers which claim to represent the expatriate problems have been found siding with the powerful and the rich sections of society. K.M.Meena as a bureacrat has tried to influence the media and control journalists through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But such things have happened only because the media was going strongly against him without any reasoning. How the business barons silenced the local media is still a mystery and the Ambassador could not insert even a normal advertisement in the local English dailies because of the clout enjoyed by the business barons who control schools.

Mabrook, Raveendranath

However, KM congratulates P.K.Raveendranath, Oman Bureau Chief, Khaleej Times, for his bold decision to report the Indian school issue in a detailed interview with the Ambassador. Ravi is a well known journalist in the Gulf with two decades of journalism experience, and nobody can question his reputation as a journalist. He has worked with the Oman Daily Observer for several years before moving to Khaleej Times Bahrain and now Khaleej Times Oman. Even if Khaleej Times has been facing a difficult situation due to internal problems, journalists like Raveendranath and stories like the one published about Indian Schools would definitely help the paper regain its lost glory among the Indian readership int he Gulf. The local media is yet to report about such issues. We are happy that at least a part of the the mainstream media in Dubai realized the importance of the issue and exposed the dubious role played by the so called community leaders in the matter.

Community leaders or Underworld Goons?

It is a shame to the entire Indian community in the Gulf that some of the so called prominenet NRIs and NRKs are actring like under world goons and greedy banias to squeeze out maximum profit from poor parents and community schools. With the huge amount of blood sucked out from ordinary parents in the last one decade, some of them have grown super rich. They can bribe ministers and bureaucrats, get as many Members of Parliemant, provide them with whisky, women and money to continue to loot the Indian community. Who ever is found to be a hindrance to such looting is removed or eliminated in a systematic manner. This is what has happened in the case of K.M.Meena. Even some of the people who have been absorbed into the school board and management committees would change their affiliation as soon as the ambassador leaves the country.

It is a shame that some of the community associations are maintaining a studied silence or are working covertly to oust the ambassador. It is equally shameful that the Indian Government has honoured some of the greedy banias with Special Awards and Prizes. By lobbying to replace a sincere diplomat using bribery and corruption, such people are denigrating the highest reward granted not only to them but to all others in this category. It is hightime that they learn the civilized way of dealing with opposition. The NRI businessman follow the barbarian way of bribing officials, taking ambassadors for a free massage in India, offering them Whisky and women to get things done in their favour.

Active TV Channels become Passive

Some leading Malayalam channels have been vocal about supporting the common man's cauise. But when such crucial issues have been happening, they are maintaining a studied silence for unknown reasons. Some camrades have been very vocal about helping the poor, downtrodden and the ordinary people. When it comes to the school fees issue they pretend as if nothing is happening. They take every opportunity to count the deadbodies send by the association in front of TV Camera to prove their social commitment to the Indian community. They would love to fill their association members in Indian school boards and Management committees. In fact their members got a chance to enter the school management committee only because of the Indian Ambassadors decision to reshuffle school committees.

But when serious issues like the ongoing campaign to remove the ambassador comes, our camrades will always remain silent. Kairali TV channel which is said to be standing for the common man and poor people will report anything and everything happening in Muscat. Even when a prominent NRK businessman sneezes, the TV channel will report it. It is being functioning like an extended office of the NRK business tycoons. But when the ambassador is being transferred in an illegitimate manner, the channel remains silent! Even though a conservative paper like Malayala Manorama carried reports about the Indian school lobby trying to transfer the Indian Ambassador, Kairali channel and its comrades are pretending as if they dont know anything about it. The channel is started with the hard earned money or ordinary Indians toiling in the Gulf!

The story of Asianet and Indian Schools in the gulf is well known. How can it report about Indian Schools corruption when the channel itself is run with the money looted from the Kuwait Indian School. The story of K.P.Mohan and the Kuwait court verdict against him is well known. Asianet is working like a PRO (Press Relation officer) of prominent NRK businessman who is one of the main forces behind transfering the Indian Ambassador. Whether Meena is transferred or not, KM will continue the path which we have opted to follow - work for the common man.- Editor Keralamonitor.com
