Toshiba poised to become Kuwait's biggest supplier of portable computers

Kuwait: 17 January 2002 -- TOSHIBA, the pioneer of mobile computing, is confident of becoming Kuwait's biggest supplier of portable computers as a result of the success of its products at the current Infoconnect exhibition which runs until January 24.

"The response has been outstanding," says Ahmed Khalil, Middle East sales manager of the company's Dubai-based computer systems division,

"Until now we have been second-biggest in terms of Kuwait market share, but the impact we have made at this show will take us to the top position very quickly - within weeks rather than months."Toshiba's growth in Kuwait has been rapid in the past 18 months according to sole-distributor, Arabian Business Machine Co.

Sales have grown by 180 per cent in the region - more than six times the industry growth rate, customer-driven and reflecting the company's technological leadership. This technology is on show at Infoconnect in the form of Toshiba's powerful series of notebooks - the Satellite, the Tecra, and the Portege.

The advanced state-of-the-art machines deliver power never before seen in notebook computers, creating a longer product lifecycle and thus reducing
total ownership costs while upping ownership benefits.

"They also represent affordable power," says Khalil. "We are offering very competitive prices on the Satellite series, compared with any other major brand. No other notebooks offer such an impressive combination of power and performance so cost-effectively," Top of the Toshiba range is the Tecra 9000 series - described as a "future-proof corporate platform". It enables wireless networking - including Bluetooth on some models - as well as enhanced expansion options with cross-compatibility.

Its stable mate, the Portege 4000, also has integrated wireless capability for complete mobile-computing freedom. Weighing only 1.7 kg, it is aimed at highly mobile professionals, its built-in components eliminating the need to carry the extra weight of DVD-playback, software loading, increased hard-disk capacity, and extra batteries.

The Satellite Pro 4600 is an advanced notebook with 'all-in-one' specifications and aimed at cost-conscious businesses.

"These notebooks epitomise our commitment to providing pioneering solutions," says Kamal Aboulhosn, Kuwait-based general manager of the Arabian Business Machine Co. "They deliver benefits never seen before in a notebook, as well as unprecedented style and maximum value for any organisation's IT investment.

"Not only that, they are fully supported by our service support teams in Kuwait. Our commitment to customer service has been an equally important factor in Toshiba's massive sales growth here." Toshiba made the world's first notebook computer back in 1985 and has have led this field ever since. "Our products are acknowledged as the best of their kind in the world, and our target is to achieve the same Number One status not only in Kuwait but throughout the Middle East," said Khalil.
