ABOUT THE INDIAN SCHOOL

Way back in 1959 a few visionaries demonstrated their wisdom of starting a school in Kuwait under the name 'The Indian School, Kuwait'.They in their vision foresaw an educational institution which would provide rich learning experiences to help the Indian students in Kuwait to develop their talents and potentials to make them best citizens of their country within their own abilities. the Indian School, established in May 1959, functioning on a non-profit basis provides educational facilities for Indian students in Kuwait. The main school is in Salmiya (Senior school) with its branhes in Salmiya(Junior school) and Khaitan. The school is governed by a Board of Trustees. The school is affiliated to the Central Board Of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and is recognised by the Ministry of Education, Kuwait. The school prepares students for All India Secondary School Examination and all India Secondary School Certificate Examination. Science and Commerce streams are available in the All India Senior School Certificate courses both for boys and girls.

Two-handed 8 years for embezzlement

A Kuwaiti court recently sentenced two people to eight years in prison for embezzling KD 150,000 belonging to the Indian Community School, according to an announcement by Kairali TV in Kerala, India. The report said that K.P. Mohanan, currently managing editor of Asianet TV channel, and Mathew Philip, were sentenced in absentia. Their accomplice, Thomas Chandy, was reported to have been fined KD 5,000 for his complicity in the crime. Kuwaiti authorities issued an arrest warrant last year through Interpol for K.P. Mohanan, who left Kuwait for India and joined Asianet after the crime was discovered. According to Indian security officials, Mohanan cannot be arrested and extradited to Kuwait due to the lack of an extradition treaty between India and Kuwait. Mohanan, once served as a trustee of the Indian Community School. Mathew Philip, who also served as chairman of the school, escaped to India after he was released on bail.
