Literary Quotation Group Discredit Achuthananthan
KM Special Report June 2009 Second Vimochana Samaram underway in Kerala!
50Years After the first Liberation Movement, Political Ground is ready for next strike?
A major section of communist party members and supporters in Kerala and outside are worried that the persistent multi pronged campaign against the state Chief Minister V S Achuthananthan, a veteran and clean communist leader, has reached a climax. Pressure is mounting on the party general secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, whose alleged involvement in the SNC Lavlin bribery case is partly blamed for the poor performance of the party in the last Parliament election. The official wing of the party under the general secretary received a major shock from voters and the main reason for the party's defeat in 16 out of 20 Parliamentary seats it contested is attributed to the follies of Pinaray, who is at the center of the SNC Lavlin case.
A protracted fight between VS and Pinaray, two leaders who represent different approaches and perceptions to government, development and economic policies, has been the most favourite topic for the visual and print media. While the state secretary is now in a defensive mood following the Governors approval to prosecute him by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Lavlin case, the pressure is also mounting on VS by a section of the official group, sycophants nurtured by Pinaray to systematically isolate and discredit popular leaders like V S who stick to clean politics of high moral standings. While many disgruntled elements have left the party and formed splinter groups, VS continues to remain an adamant rebel within the CPM framework. The green signal from the state Governor to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to prosecute Pinarayi has come as a double shock to the official wing and the central leadership which majority of people believe do not represent the will of the masses.
First Vimochana Samaram
Fifty years have passed after the first Vimochana Samaram (Liberation Struggle), a lumpan agitation funded and engineered by the Central Intelligence Agency of the USA with the active support of the Indian Federal Government under Jawaharlal Nehru, the Roman Catholic Church, the Nair Service Society (NSS), and other socio-religious groups that unleashed violence and mayhem to disturb public life and to oust the first democratically elected Communist Government in the world under E M S Namboodirippadu. It is a crucial post election period when the party ideologues are analyzing the reasons for the poor performance of the rouge candidates, mostly handpicked by the state secretary and a small coterie of power brokers for their personal loyalties and corporate sponsorship rather than their credentials as potential good parliamentarians. Now it is felt that political preparations are on for a silent second Vimochana Samaram in the state for the ouster of VSA, the most respected communist leader whose stature equate the veterans like EMS Namboodiripadu, the first communist chef minister illegally ousted by the Nehru Government. (Video showing how the CIA toppled the E M S Government in 1950s with the help of Congress leaders and the Roman Catholic Church)
Many prominent Indian politicians including late Shri Rajiv Gandhi, were subjected to CBI investigation. The party leadership instead of asking the accused leader to step down from the secretary post and improving the party's corruption free public image to prepare for the next assembly elections due in a few years time, the Rasputins in the State Committee have sought the support of a media syndicate to discredit the Chief Minister. A group of literary gangsters appears to have taken a quotation from the Pinaray group to eliminate and discredit the CM. They are also using the students' wing and youth wings of the party to stage rallies, gharavos and destruction of public property just to protect the corrupt leader. A party which inspired even the neutral middle class voters due to the charismatic and corruption free image of veteran leaders like A K Gopalan or E MS Nampoothirippadu is now using third rate goons to shield a corrupt leader. Till he is proved guilty in a court Pinarayi can easily step down as the party secretary.
Corruption Threatens Integrity of Leaders
A number of so called "neutral" and "independent" newspapers and television channels have joined hands for the Second Vimochana samaram. All parochial forces in the state - religious leaders, corporate titans, community and communal associations are part of this sinister move and a group of pseudo intellectuals, some claiming to be supportive of the left movement, have now joined this glocal (global and local) network to further weaken communists.
As correctly hinted by V S from Shanku Mukham, a single Malayali Gorbachev is causing the total disintegration of left parties and eroding its mass support base. The working classes from various religious groups and castes, the basis of the party, have been distancing from it. Some prominent leaders are indirectly influenced by their family members' desire for wealth and fortune. These temptation drove them to indulge in corruption, and at least a couple of ministers are trapped through their family members - ambitious sons, daughters and even wives. The best way to penetrate CPM politburo has been through bedroom and kitchen of the senior party leaders. No wonder some of the worst villans featured in the mainstream media in Kerala are now offspring's of Cabinet ministers. (Kerala Gorbachev?)
Such penetration of the party with corrupt and criminal elements gives a strong weapon for the party's opponents to campaign in the last election. While some of these stories are exaggerated and overplayed by the media, nobody can dispute the fact behind these stories. As one commentator said girls in the state feared to go out fearing two ministers' sons! In a couple of corruption cases like the Total For You investment scam, Sebi Mano Mathew helipad project case and Santhosh Madhavan controversy the ministers relatives are directly or indirectly implicated. These stories give enough pulp material for the channels and newspapers, partly funded by overseas groups interested in thwarting left movement, to tarnish the left parties in general and CPI(M) in particular. SNC Lavlin case and the verbal fight between Sukumar Azhokode and VS are the most interesting topic for the Malayalam media now.
Global Crisis and Economic Reforms
The global economic crisis has severely exposed the hallow claims of the invincibility of free markets and economic liberalization. Many left intellectuals, especially Pinarayi Vijayan and Company, have been arguing for a diluted version of the economic liberalization of Dr Manmohan Singh. A group of left intellectuals are trying to portray the chief minister as a monster opposed to mega development projects in the state. Simultaneously, these leaders are supporting large scale land grabbing ostensibly for industrial projects and setting up special economic zones, at times forcibly evicting residents. A section of the party leadership has also helped sabotage the second land reform plan. The Moonnar initiative of V S was sabotaged jointly by these leaders. While the Tatas and other illegal encroachers still sit on thousands of acres of government owned land and estates, some tribals and backward castes have to dig their kitchen to bury their dead relatives because they don't have any piece of land. A recent media report said many triabls in certain pockets of Kerala dig their kitchen to bury the dead family members. Despite the land reforms introduced by the first communist government in the 1950s, the scheme benefited tenants and not the Dalits, who used to work in the fields. In West Bengal, the move to grab peasants land in Nadigram for the Nano project has caused much damage to the CPMs image as a working class party.
Right Wing Groups come Together
In an article written during the fiftieth anniversary of the first communist government in Kerala, Ajay Ghosh, the then General Secretary of Communist Party wrote in August 1959: "The reactionaries in Kerala-landlords, British plantation owners and big capitalists-resented these reforms. So did their political allies-the Congress Party, the Praja-Socialist Party and the Muslim League leaders. In the forefront of the opposition stood the Roman Catholic Bishops. The Catholic Church, which receives heavy subsidies from America, is a powerful force in the social, political and economic life of Kerala; it controls a large number of private schools and owns vast landed and other property." Jesus Christ who was born in a working class family identified himself with the poor and downtrodden. The established Church, on the other hand, developed as a strong institution during British colonial rule in India, has always stood with the rich and affluent and their political parties. Now the Catholic Church is getting ready for an open confrontation like the first Vimochana Samaram by setting up a trade union and political groups for Christians. The Bishops are also working closely with the ruling party at the centre to eliminate left parties - an unfulfilled dream for five decades.
Ghosh said the Indian big business and their political supporters feared that the existence of a Communist-led government in one part of India was a hindrance to aid from the USA and cause the spread of such an infection to other states. 'Local election victories by Communists in India and Indonesia are a dangerous trend. It is a dangerous trend whenever Communists move towards political control." Ghosh John foster Dulles saying at a press conference in September 1957. T.T. Krishnamachari, then Indian Finance Minister said in the course of an interview to an American newspaper on the eve of his departure to Washington for American: 'We have to try to explain to them [Americans] that the battle in India is a battle against Communism too. We lost the state of Kerala to the Communists and one of the reasons behind it was that we could not spend enough money for development there'
They also feared that the successful implementation of land reforms, education reforms helpful to the masses would spread the communist infection to other states where Indian National Congress was ruling. While the Congress party leaders promised to introduce reforms, they could never do it as the party represented the big business and land owners. Even after gaining independence, British colonial capital continued to have a strong grip on the Indian economy. Now the global capital has gained a controlling grip on the country's economy. The ruling party in New Delhi has already shed its socialist cover and is ardently welcoming more foreign capital to the country. While Osama bin Ladin is trying to convert General Motors into a Government Motors and nationalization of lose making private companies, the reverse is happening in India. More reforms and the sell out of public sector jewels at throw away prices. After the recent polls, the Communists have been stripped of any importance in the national politics. The poor performance of the party at the crucial national election is partly due to the follies of corrupt leadership in Kerala under Pinarayi.
The Kerala Student Union leaders like Vayalar Ravi, A K Antony and others who spearheaded the youth congress violence during the first Vimochana Samaram are holding important cabinet portfolios at the center. They are getting more close to the USA led strategic alliance, which is planning major offensive against independent nation states in the name of Islamic terrorism. The left is misusing the right opportunity to regain prominence in national politics by wasting its time on useless leaders like Pinaray who will help fasten the downfall and death of communist party in India.
