e-government Dubai Naturalization & Residency Administration to upgrade entire network system

keralamonitor.com

Dubai: In an effort to extend the services provided to Dubai residents and visitors, the Naturalization and Residency Administration in Dubai plans to upgrade its entire network to offer faster and more efficient services to its clients. The project, which involves upgrading the local area network (LAN), will be executed by Emirates Computers using the latest switch technology from Cisco solutions. The multi service switch increases the speed of the entire system. In addition, a fibre optic network will be used to link terminal one to the Branch of Dubai Airport passport central section at Dubai Airport. This is the first project undertaken by Emirates Computers for the Naturalization and Residency Administration

"We were among the first departments in Dubai to provide our services electronically to Dubai residents. In keeping with the e-government venture and HH Sheikh Mohammed's vision, we are pleased to offer technologically advanced systems to facilitate and ease the legal procedures that visitors to our country have to undergo," said Colonel Saeed Bin Belaila, the Director of Dubai Naturalization and Residency Administration. "We have selected Emirates Computers for this project due to their vast experience in providing reliable and quality solutions to various government departments," he added.

"Emirates Computers is indeed delighted to provide the upgrade to a system with a robust infrastructure. The Naturalization and Residency Administration has always been a far sighted and discerning organization in adapting cutting edge technology," said Haytham Kamel, Vice President and General Manager, Emirates Computers, Dubai and Northern Emirates.

The network upgrade at the Naturalization and Residency Administration makes it possible to add a greater amount of applications to the existing system. The improved network will permit a wider range of applications, including imaging and administration applications along with Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP).

"The Naturalization and Residency Administration and Emirates Computers will be working as a joint team to ensure the success and completion of the project ," said Ramez Bsaiso, Project Manager and Senior Network Consultant of Emirates Computers. " We do not envisage any difficulty in completing the project in a record time of one month," he added.

The Administration is one of the foremost departments to have provided e-services to the residents of Dubai. Following an announcement in June 2000 that the electronic format of this application would be made available on the Internet, a group of online services were provided by December 2000.

The current network, which was formerly updated in 1995, is no longer able to meet the complex requirements of the Administration. The systems have now been upgraded to use computerized instead of manual applications. In keeping with the times, the prevailing system is completely automated. This feature will allow the network to improve its services internally as well as externally. It also allows the possibility to retrieve and archive files at a much faster level.

India's Constitutional Framework able to end Discrimination

keralamonitor.com

New Delhi: India has told the United Nation’s High Commission for Human Rights that the country has a strong constitutional framework to end all types of discrimination against different sections of peopl, said the Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya when the United Nation’s High Commission for Human Rights, Ms. Mary Robinson called on him here today. He said that during the last fifty years a lot has been achieved but much more needs to be done in this regard.

Dr. Jatiya said that priority is given to education and economic uplift of the weaker and marginalised sections to bring them into the mainstream of national life. We are assisted by about two thousand NGOs to achieve this goal. He said that concerted efforts are being made to end social discrimination and there is a strong legal framework to deal with violations. Dr. Jatiya said that there are isolated incidents of discrimination and violence but they are not widespread as have been alleged in some reports.

Regarding Juvenile Justice, the Minister informed the visiting dignitary that a new child friendly Act has been constituted that makes a clear distinction between a juvenile offender and a neglected child. He said that the Social Justice and Empowerment Ministry is running a 24-hour free phone Childline Service to help children in distress. He said the Childline Service presently available in 28 cities would be extended to cover 50 cities.

Appreciating the efforts being made by India to empower its marginalised sections, Ms. Robinson said that UN High Commission for Human Rights is likely to organise a conference on violence against children next year and expressed hope that India would be actively involved in it. She offered support on the issue of juvenile justice. Ms. Robinson said that the UN would vigorously implement the Declaration of the Durban Racism Conference.
