The Editor in Chief Kerala Monitor

Dear Sir,

This is to bring to your humane ears the tragic incident that occurred in the case of my son that I am sending you this missive.

My son, along with his brother and his friend had gone out to spend the evening on Friday, the 10th of October, 2003. They had gone to spend the evening out and my elder son and his friend had had a few drinks. My younger son does not drink and he was not under the influence of alcohol. The city police pounced on these youngsters and took them into custody around 11 p.m. They were taken to the Cusba Police station and from there the ones who were under the influence of alcohol were taken to the hospital for medical verification of having taken alcohol.

My youngest son had not taken any drinks, so he was not taken for medical verification. But while the others were being taken away by the police, my youngest son tried to inform me through his mobile phone about what happened. But while he was doing so, the police pounced on him and beat him up. This was witnessed by my elder son and his friend. They were taken for medical verification and then made to spend the night in the Cusba police station. When they asked about the whereabouts of my other son, the police told them that they had released him and he had gone away.

My elder son and the friend were release next day and they made enquires, which led them nowhere. They contacted the local politicians and some influential police officers. After preliminary enquiries we were given to understand that my son was beaten to death by the Cusba police officers. After having committed the heinous crime they took the body and dumped it in the backwaters near the boat jetty. This was the inside information that we got from the senior officers who did the preliminary investigation.

Yesterday ( 11 ? 10 ? 2003) we had filed a man missing complaint with the local police and by this morning the police came up with the revelation that they had found the body from the backwaters near the boat jetty.

Nothing else has been confirmed.

I am appealing to you, as the upholders of truth and justice, that you should take up this case of inhuman torture leading to death of an innocent person. This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred, nor will it be the last. But we, as conscientious citizens, should take it upon ourselves to look into this kind of incidents and see that such things do not take place again and that the inhuman and uncultured villains do not go unpunished.

I am appealing to you for help. I am a father who has lost my youngest son, who has been robbed off his youth, his future, his everything. Till a few days ago, his future was rosy; his life was full of abounding promise; his family was together. Now, everything is lost. Nothing is the same anymore.

You, as the upholders of truth and justice should take it upon yourself to dig deep and find out the truth. I depend on you all to help me and my family at this juncture. When the upholders of justice are the ones who destroy the very fabric of the law, who are we to approach for justice? What should we do? Please help us?

Please do not fail me at this time of need.

This is not a cry of one single parent. This is the cry of all the parents of young children who are at the inhuman mercy of the villainous police force of Kerala. This is the pleas of all the peace loving and law abiding fathers and mothers of the youth of Kerala. Please do not let them down. Please do not allow the lives of the youth of today to be snuffed out so cruelly by the inhuman policemen of the Kerala Police force.

Awaiting justice and some sort of solace from your kind self.

Yours sadly,

M.J. George.
