Overbooking by Air India, Indian Airlines
caused overcrowding in airlines.
Flight operators in the Kerala-Gulf sector
have begun efforts to airlift with introducing additional
flights from the three airports in Kerala. Many of the
passengers were facing visa expiry and job loss.Acceptance
of booking beyond capacity by the Air India and Indian
Airlines is said to be the reason for overcrowding flights
to Gulf destination that caused some 5,000-odd passengers
to various Gulf destinations, stranded in Kerala. Non-availability
of seats on the scheduled flights has been going on during
the peak season and the proportion has been very high
this season due to unknown reasons. Majority of the NRK
passengers were to fly from Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi
and Kozhikode airports to UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and
Oman. The non-availability of seats during the school-reopening
season in the Gulf countries was a regular feature every
year but the return of those who have come for Onam celebration
aggravated the crisis this year. Most families came with
a one-way ticket hoping that they can get the return seats
from.
Of the 5,000 stranded passengers, 1,000
are reportedly under the urgent category and
the rest in the very urgent category, facing
visa expiry and job loss. Some have taken the Mumbai and
Chennai route to escape visa expiry. The travel agents
blame the failure of national carriers AI and IA to operate
additional flights for the plight. The foreign airlines
are levying IATA-approved higher fare to Gulf countries
on the passengers instead of the ones approved by Indias
Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA and the passengers
facing visa expiry and job loss are forced to purchase
the tickets on IATA fare.

Letters of Griavences
After Compliments,
Dear Sir,
Sub: My Passport Nos B: 2047939 issued
at Muscat.
Firstly I would like to thank The India
Ambassador and the Staff of The Indian Embassy for not
offering me any assistance and even not responding to
my letters dt 19th Aug & 10th Sept 2003,to ensure
that my passport which is issued in the name of The President
Of India to claimed back from my Company even though it
has expired and I have been harassed and not been paid
my dues which is my right as per the Omani Labors law
since the past 25 months.
How ever I have managed to obtain my passport
through the Local court of Oman. Yesterday
while I was at the Embassy, I have observed that Mr. Ahmed
Hamood Al Siyaibi & Mr. Yahaya Al Siyaibi have applied
for their visit Visa to India.
As there was a case pending in the local
court for my dues, I was not allowed to leave the country
even in the event of my father's death. The question now
remains that will the Indian Embassy issue a visit Visa
to these people as still there is a case pending against
them for my over due claims and will these people pay
their dues while on visit in India?
I fail to understand the roll of the Indian
Embassy in Oman and cannot even thank your but just to
say.
Regards
Dinkoo Mistry
