Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer-The Musical Legend passed away

Chennai Oct 31: The Carnatic music maestro , Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer (95) passed away today here, at his residence at 1010 hrs. He has been the principal of the Swati Thirunal Music Academy, Thiruvananthapuram. The veteran vocalist was unwell for the past few days and at the time of his death all the members of his family was by his side. He is survived by three sons and two daughters. -Keralamonitor.com

November 1st - Kerala Day to be celebrated

Thiruvananthapuram Oct 31: Kerala Day celebrations are to be widely held in different places here on Nov 1st. At the Vyloppalli Bhavan, there would be the Kerala Day celebrations organized by Kerala Sahitya Academy which is to be inaugurated by Prof. S.Guptan Nair at 10.a.m. There would be a key note address of Prof. M.K.Sanu on the topic, "Maathrubhaashayum Samskaaravum". Perumbadavam Sreedharan would preside over the function. Dr. P.V.Krishnan Nair would give the welcome message and Prof Vattapparambil Gopinathan Pillai would give the thanksgivings.
At noon 2, there would a "Kavisammelanam" to be inaugurated by Dr.K.Ayyappa Panicker and presided over by Sugatha Kumari. Vishnu Narayanan Namboothiri, Dr. Puthusseri Ramachandran, D.Vinayachandran, P.Narayanakurup, Neelamperoor Madhusudhanan Nair, Prabha Varma, Karoor Shashi, Vijayalekshmi, Savithri Rajeevan, Sujatha Devi and Lalitha Lenin would present their poems. Chandramathi would say the welcome speech and Prof. K.S.Narayanapillai would deliver the thanksgivings.

There would also be the public meeting of the Cultural Department at evening 5.p.m to be inaugurated by Minister G.Karthikeyan. M.V.Devan would be the chief guest and the programme would be presided over by Academy Vice President U.K.Kumaran. First Ruling Language Prize for Girishan

Thiruvananthapuram Oct 31: Girishan, the lower division Clerk of Thiruvananthapuram Chief Electrical Inspectorare, won the prize for the Ruling Language Service Prize for the government employees which would be given for the first time by the government. The prize would include an amount of Rs.10,000 and a Satsevana Certificate.
