Her father is Additional Private Secretary to the speaker and her mother is a school teacher at Cottonhill Higher Secondary School. Girish and Kannan, her brothers are doing Engineering course and B.Sc in Maths respectively. She is the youngest of the three children. In an exclusive interview with this reporter, an overjoyed Dhanya gave all credit for her grand victory to the blessings of god, her parents and the teachers who all inspired her a lot. She gives special credits to her class teacher Padma Ganesh, who she feels had inspired her a lot and helped her in her studies. Asked about her future plans, she said she expects a scholarship - the National Talent Scan Examination (NTSE) for which she has competed. She has already written the preliminary exams and is soon expecting to score in the final exams.
With a special affinity towards science subjects and a good scoring in the past exams, she is planning to take up either medicine or move into physics in which she is highly interested. "My mother wanted me to score full marks in Chemistry and so I worked hard for scoring full marks in Chemistry" she told Keralamonitor, giving her full credit for her 50 out of 50 marks in Chemistry. She has scored full marks in almost all subjects including her favourite subject Physics. She got 49 marks in Biology and she mentioned that, she missed the one mark in a fill up the blanks question in Biology. More than in languages, her inclination is towards science subjects. The Rank Girl said she is not much interested in literary competitions. She normally takes part in quiz programmes in school and has been scoring top in her class since 7th standard. Dhanya has quite a lot of friends among whom is her classmate, close friend and 6th rank holder, Savitha. When asked about her friends, she said that almost every girl in her class is her friend. Dhanya didn't expect the first rank, but her father said that the family expected a rank within the first 15 ranks. She doesn't sit up late night and study.
"I sleep at 11 in the night and don't stay awake after 11", Dhanya said with a friendly smile and said that there were no special preparations for her studies. She said that she didn't expect first rank, because, in the NTSE camp that took place, she had met many students who were quite good at studies and scored really well. "I made a few mistakes in mathematics and so I didn't feel I would score so well and get a rank on a state level", Dhanya said and opined that every student who gets more than 560 as grand total are really studious and eligible for a rank. It is just a slip of a few marks and so there is nothing like more studious or less studious students. She loves to watch movies of Mohanlal and Mammootty , and is not much interested in English movies. Her brothers Girish and Kannan were also good students as they scored distinction in the exams. However, Dhanya is the first one in her family ever to score a first rank. When asked about her opinion about the introducing of grading system in 10th standard, she said that she felt it is a good thing.
By introducing grading system there won't be any kind of marathon competition for ranks. Her mother, who is a Chemistry teacher, said that there was no compulsion from the parents to get first rank. But still students would lose the fun of childhood as they have to plunge into studies and projects. Cottonhill School has also scored quite a few ranks in this year's SSLC exams. Dhanya said that she approved of the introduction of plus two system in schools and says that it would help students gain in depth knowledge in the selected subjects. It was a hectic day for Dhanya with congratulatory phone calls and for the next couple of days she would have quite a busy schedule with media interviews and felicitations. Though a bit nervous of seeing media people and the unprecedented publicity that she is getting as a rank holder, she is enjoying the new glory of this tremendous victory and at the same time maintaining her humble and friendly attitude. Lots of good wishes and messages congratulating her are still flooding to her home. -Keralamonitor.com
