NRIs continue to Buld Castles in the Air

Dear Sir(s),

We are trying to trace an absconding couple called Amar R... and Chris...(full names withheld) from Bangalore, India who have cheated me and a dozen others in property deals in Banglaore.   They have miss-appropriated millions and left many people homeless.  It is reliably learnt that they are holed up in Muscat and trying to bide their time till they migrate to Australia.  The last we heard was Amar was doing business in garments and then he gave up and started working for some company in Muscat.  We believe even his wife ... is also working and recently their son also joined them from India.

Also your advise on how to go about lodging an official complaint with Oman Authorities about them, as there is already a FIR filed with the Bangalore Police and Court Summons have been issued against them.

Please beware they are ace con artists, any assistance in tracing them is a service to society and god only knows how many more people they are trying to cheat right now in Oman. Their most famous victim is Mr. Eswara Rao former Director of AIR, who having lost all his retirement money to this ...Amar and has been left with no money for medical treatment for his weak heart.

Hence, we would very much appreciate your assistance in locating them by circulating with all your members and other Indian Associations.  If you do know their whereabouts kindly contact me on zeas@qatar.net.qa or Mobile +974-5567069.

Thank you.

After Compliments,

Dear Sir,

Sub: My Passport Nos B: 2047939 issued at Muscat.

Firstly I would like to thank The India Ambassador and the Staff of The Indian Embassy for not offering me any assistance and even not responding to my letters dt 19th Aug & 10th Sept 2003,to ensure that my passport which is issued in the name of The President Of India to claimed back from my Company even though it has expired and I have been harassed and not been paid my dues which is my right as per the Omani Labors law since the past 25 months.

How ever I have managed to obtain my passport through the Local court of Oman.

Yesterday while I was at the Embassy, I have observed that Mr. Ahmed Hamood Al Siyaibi & Mr. Yahaya Al Siyaibi have applied for their visit Visa to India.

As there was a case pending in the local court for my dues, I was not allowed to leave the country even in the event of my father's death. The question now remains that will the Indian Embassy issue a visit Visa to these people as still there is a case pending against them for my over due claims and will these people pay their dues while on visit in India?

I fail to understand the roll of the Indian Embassy in Oman and cannot even thank your but just to say.

Regards

Dinkoo Mistry

Reaffirming its Multi-vendor policy: Al Alamiah Group announces a strategic collaboration with HP

With the rapid growth of the IT market in Saudi Arabia & Kuwait, "Al Alamiah" Group, the largest Arab IT contractor, announces that it has adopted a "multi vendor" strategy through fine tuning its liaison with the American company HP, adding this company to its list of suppliers serving regional markets.

Al Alamiah (Riyadh-Kuwait-Dubai): 14/1/2004

Al Alamiah Group, which includes the largest specialized IT companies in the Middle East, announced the launch of a strategic collaboration with the international IT giant, Hewlett Packard (HP). This high-profile collaboration includes liaising the businesses and projects administered by the Al Alamiah Group in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait & other GCC countries, with a view to enhancing the Group's position as the largest IT & communications contractor in the region.

This announcement is a confirmation of the new overall strategic direction Al Alamiah Group has embraced for the long term. It is a well studied, well planned, strategy adopted over the past two years, in liaison with the Group's largest clients. The "multi-vendor" strategy is a direct outcome of Al Alamiah's closely knit ties with major IT giants such as Dell, Cisco & Acer for hardware; Intel, Microsoft, Oracle and Sakhr for systems & applications; in addition to the company's strong bond with well established high-profile clients in Saudi Arabia & Kuwait.

It is also noteworthy that Al Alamiah Group is the only company in the region that has been awarded the DASP certificate, making it the only Dell Authorized Service Provider in Kuwait & Saudi Arabia.

"Al Alamiah's strategy is the natural upshot of our main goal of establishing our company as the pioneer in the field of comprehensive IT solutions. To this end we have poured all our efforts & investments towards supplying our clients with whatever they need; from hardware, to software, networks, implementation, training & support, all of which is part of Al Alamiah's well studied plan," stated Hamed Al-Sharekh, Vice President Al Alamiah Group, President Al Alamiah Group KSA. He added, "Because we are fully aware of the needs & demands of the region, and because we fully understand its nuances & culture, international IT giants give us their utmost support in order that we may work together to serve the region's markets."

Al Alamiah Group KSA was ranked 61 in Saudi Arabia's list of the 100 largest companies in the kingdom for 2002. This places Al Alamiah at the top of IT specialized GGC companies. The Group's list of clients includes some of the largest organizations in the region from the oil, banking & industrial sectors, as well as governmental institutions in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia & others in the GCC. During 2003, the Group's business in the equipment & IT solutions sectors exceeded US$220 million.

"We have carefully mapped out our new "multi-vendor" marketing strategy, and we have organized our clients in Kuwait & Saudi Arabia into several groups," Al Sharekh explained, adding, "This means that Al Alamiah will have enough flexibility to enable us to offer our clients the solutions that best meet their requirements from a large selection of products provided by our authorized suppliers. This in turn will ensure that our clients get additional benefits, a better return on their investment & the best support, services, maintenance & after sales services. Our latest projects with the Saudi National Guard and Kuwait's Social Security are the first fruits of our collaboration efforts with HP."

"This strategic collaboration will benefit Al Alamiah's clients in Saudi Arabia & Kuwait in particular. To begin with, our collaboration with HP will concentrate on the company's specialty products from servers, to work stations, printers, and other products which are in demand by small to medium sized companies," Abdulaziz Al Gharabally said, commenting on the expected effects of this agreement on Al Alamiah's clients.

Hewlett Packard was named American's best company in the area of Customer Relationships. HP continues to produce modern innovations & continues to provide its clients with products, services & solutions as recent reports issued by the ADC Research Organization indicated HP as leading the market with its servers & workstations. HP was also named the company with fastest growth rate worldwide in the field of handheld Palm equipment.(keralamonitor.com) - Kuwait/Saudi.

Dubai -14th January 2004 Baskin Robbins, the world's leading ice-cream brand, will unveil two exciting new flavours at Global Village 2004, the entertainment, shopping and cultural extravaganza of the Dubai Shopping Festival being hosted by Dubai Festival City. The names of the two new flavours though are a closely guarded secret - one is to be revealed on the 15th January, the first day of DSF and the second on the 1st February.

"All I can tell you at the moment is that the two new flavours have been specially developed for Global Village 2004 and will make dynamic additions to Baskin Robbins' famous range of more than 1000 flavours," said Manoj Loya, Manager-Gulf, Galadari Ice Cream Co. LLC, GCC franchisee for Baskin Robbins.

"One is so jam packed with crunchy and exotic nuts, we couldn't possibly fit anymore into each scoop and still leave room for the ice cream and the second new flavour is the answer to every chocolate lover's dreams."

Loya described the flavour as a chocolate ice cream filled with a variety of dark, milk and white chocolates with delicious caramel, fudge, marshmallows and raspberry."Our association with the Global Village in the past has been extremely successful and we are going to great lengths to ensure that we are able to give to our customers at Global Village the magical Baskin Robbins experience," said Loya.

"The event will certainly provide Baskin Robbins with an opportunity to launch the new flavours to a vast, diversified audience all in one place at one time."The Global Village association with a high profile brand like Baskin Robbins, could be timely with Dubai Festival City currently assessing tenants for its retail opportunities.

e-TQM College to distribute quarterly digest to promote
e-learning in the Arab world

Digest will be available to public and delivered via email

January 15, 2004

e-TQM College, the Dubai-based electronic college specializing in conducting online programs in total quality management, has launched its inaugural issue of the e-learning Digest. This publication is launched on a quarterly basis, addressing specific topics of relevance to the field of e-learning around the world and in the Arab world in particular.

"The digest, which is compiled by e-TQM College and free of charge, aims to help promote awareness of e-learning and deliver related information to people wishing to know more about the vast world of e-learning. The benefits and powers of e-learning will be addressed so that more people will eventually turn to it as an alternative, convenient method to increase knowledge," said Dr. Narimane Hadjhamou, e-Learning Director, e-TQM College.

"e-Learning is a growing concept in the region and the role of e-learning in education and training will substantially grow in the next decade. The reason for this is the increasing demand from learners who want a more flexible, convenient, and tailored form of training and learning. Despite the fact that governments and corporate organisations are increasingly incorporating e-learning into their business practices, we still have a long way to go before we see citizens from all across the region accepting and utilising e-learning to its full potential. We, at e-TQM College, would like to participate in spreading the culture of e-learning in the Arab world," said Dr. Hadjhamou.

Dr. Hadjhamou also added that the e-learning digest has been created with the intention to support the advancement of research and development of e-learning. A particular focus is given to the implementation of e-learning in the Middle Eastern region. The digest will allow senior managers, e-learning professionals, academics in the field as well as potential e-learners to keep abreast of the latest developments in e-learning and to fully understand the intricacies of its implementation and relevance to specific situations. In order to target a wider audience, the digest will be published in both Arabic and English language and e-TQM College is proud to have some of the world's e-learning experts associated with the e-Learning Digest.

"Government and corporate sectors in the UAE are among the first in the Arab world to adopt e-learning and the UAE has already implemented many initiatives to promote its use region-wide. We would like to build on this effort to further enhance its perception in the Middle East," Dr. Hadjhamou said.

The e-learning market in Dubai is set to grow rapidly over the next five years, from US$6 million in 2003, to US$24 million by the end of 2008, according to a recent market study by Madar Research Group. This surge represents the adoption of and interest in this convenient, flexible approach to learning, across the Middle East.

Specialised Software Services launches Scala's next-generation dynamic broadcast solutions in the Middle East

The dynamic solution seamlessly integrates text, graphics, sound and video into broadcast quality multimedia

January 17, 2004 The world-renowned InfoChannel 3 Suite, the next-generation broadcast media software that seamlessly combines text, graphic, sound and video into broadcast-quality multimedia on the computer, has been launched for the Middle East market by Specialized Software Services, a subsidiary of Al Babtain group, distributors for Scala Broadcast Multimedia, one of the world leaders in dynamic signage software.

The solution, which was showcased at the recently concluded Sign & Graphic Imaging 2004, at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre, can be used to transmit content like advertising, news or training to a Plasma screen, TV or kiosk, from a single desktop PC. The solution's core strength is its ability to keep content relevant through easy updating or customizing by demographics, time of day, or locale, in an easy yet-cost-effective manner.

"Most participants at the show were displaying conventional tools of signage, like printers and imaging equipment incorporating old technology compared the dynamic signage technology demonstrated by Scala. We are therefore proud to introduce the award-winning InfoChannel 3 Suite to customers in this region", said Ahmed El Ridi, Business Development Manager, Specialized Software Services, the Middle East representative for Scala.

"The InfoChannel 3 Suite represents the new face of signage that has moved from paper to Plasma. This dynamic medium has phased out conventional static forms of communications like posters and banners, by introducing a more flexible technology that gives users the benefit of changing content at any point, from anywhere in the world, through wireless cable. We have currently implemented the InfoChannel 3 Suite application on plasma screens at Dubai Airport, Virgin Megastores and at Bur Juman Centre in Dubai. We have plans to deliver this solution to other leading organizations and governmental bodies in the near future, especially in markets like the UAE and Qatar. We have a dedicated team of professionals to provide high quality services, including after-sales support in the region", added Ahmed El Ridi.

Mike Fabian, Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Vice-President, Operations, Scala Broadcast media, said "As the leader in Dynamic Digital Signage solutions since 1987, our technology has field-proven scalability and 24/7 reliability. The global signage market is worth US$ 2.1 billion, and growing at a compounded annual rate of 20% and Scala is a market leader with over 100,000 customers globally. Dynamic signage represents the future of advertising and multimedia signage. We are excited about the potential in the Middle East market and foresee a huge demand for the InfoChannel 3 Suite considering the region's thriving retail market".

InfoChannel facilitates both central and regional control of content and can be deployed on a variety of networks including LAN, modem, Internet, satellite, using standard Microsoft software and hardware. Thus businesses in the Middle East can easily change and customize content for each of their branches or centers across the region, without additional costs.

The InfoChannel Suite 3 allows users to author and schedule multimedia content for virtually any type of display application in retail or public spaces, kiosks, cable community access or advertising channels, corporate television networks, in-store televisions, cruise ships, call centers, health & safety advice networks, emergency response networks, dynamic museum exhibits, casinos or hotel information channels.

e-Governments have a major role to play in the development of e-commerce: Dubai eGovernment

Students of Higher Colleges of Technology briefed on opportunities for careers in e-commerce

January 12, 2004The momentum towards e-commerce is accelerating in the UAE, with government and private companies increasingly using it to drive sales and procurements. Consequently, career opportunities in the field of e-commerce are set to grow dramatically over the next few years, said Salem Al Shair, Director eServices, Dubai eGovernment.

Addressing the students of Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi, on employment opportunities open to young national graduates, Al Shair said: "E-commerce is an all-encompassing phenomenon. No company, supplier, dealer or distributor can afford to stay out of it. For companies, it is not enough to have a website; it is critically important to join online marketplaces that bring sellers together, offering great sourcing flexibility, lower costs and speedy transactions."

Explaining Dubai eGovernment's approach to e-commerce, Al Shair said: "Dubai eGovernment, as the central gateway through which various government departments deliver their eServices to the public and businesses, has a strong role to play in the growth of e-commerce. E-commerce fits very well with our objective of offering public services electronically through our portal www.dubai.ae. Conducting trade electronically will allow government departments to considerably improve their procurement standards and also ensure best pricing with minimum or no paperwork."

In the UAE, more and more companies are moving towards e-commerce. The tedious job of contacting suppliers, keeping inventories, updating stocks and ensuring quick delivery has been made smooth and efficient by the Web. Government departments are increasingly managing their procurement through online marketplaces like Tejari.com. This has brought numerous benefits to all parties in the chain and boosted overall efficiency.

"e-governments have a major role to play in the development of e-commerce.
e-government initiatives have made governments active participants in e-commerce. Through e-commerce activities, governments function as both consumers and suppliers of e-commerce and related services. Thus, the role of government as a regulator has changed to a more participatory one. e-government and e-commerce are, therefore, two sides of the same coin," continued Al Shair.

The career opportunities in e-commerce are diverse. "The all-embracing nature of e-commerce has created a scenario where every company will need to employ specialists to manage e-commerce divisions. Every government department will eventually migrate its procurement processes to online platforms. Online selling could be as important, if not more important, than traditional selling. Further, we will see the setting up of more online marketplaces. With the popularity of online payment through credit cards and innovative tools like e-cash, e-commerce is guaranteed to dominate every aspect of modern business and life," added Al Shair.

If needed, an optional battery XL is able to expand the operating time to 20 hours.

The flexible connectivity concept allows the implementation of mobile applications such as SAP server data access, secure VPN solutions and mobility solutions based on thin clients. Moreover, the open system architecture of the Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PCs operating system allows the use of many third-party applications, such as auto-navigation and database systems.
