Saudi Telecom Company sign multi-million dollar partnership with Xerox

STC Data Centre in Riyadh becomes largest Xerox site in Middle East

KM Correspondent

Dubai, January 9, 2001: Xerox recently announced that it has signed a new multi-million dollar Full Service and Maintenance Partnership (FSMA) with Saudi Telecom Company (STC). The agreement, which is worth more than SR10 million (US $2.5 million), covers a period of twenty-two months and is the largest on-site contract for Xerox in the Middle East.

Further, with the signing of the FSMA, the STC Data Centre in Riyadh becomes the largest Xerox site in the region. Two full time Xerox engineers are now permanently based at the facility, managing the telecom company's high-volume printing system 16 hours a day, seven days a week.

The on-site engineers are also responsible for servicing and maintaining STC's twelve Xerox DocuPrint 180 laser printers, ensuring that all of its mobile Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) statements and bills are sent out on time and error-free.

"The issues that we needed to address for STC included cost containment, the need to produce multiple products and the need to eliminate redundant steps in the production process. Our knowledge of the digital platform is exceptional. This expertise allows us to position ourselves at the forefront of the multi-function market, and offer customers such as STC the most efficient desktop printing, network printing, copying, scanning and faxing to our customers," said Sinval Medeiros, General Manager, Saudi Xerox Limited (SXL).

"We are responsible for all of STC's external document output. Through the FMSA, we are responsible for managing the day to day maintenance and operation of its printing system, thereby freeing its staff to concentrate on what they do best - delivering a global quality service and product to mobile customers in Saudi Arabia."

Mr. Medeiros further said that following the successful installation of the Data Center, STC has also decided to entrust Xerox with the task of migrating the Data Center's software platform from the current Doc 1 software to UNIX.

"Xerox Professional Services (XPS) will handle the entire migrating process, that will see the printing process separated from the mainframe," he added.

The FSMA is an extension and expansion of a previous, highly successful, one-year warranty contract between Xerox and STC. Under the terms of the new contract Xerox will install a further four DocuPrint 180s over the coming months.

The 180 page per minute digital Xerox DocuPrint 180 laser printer is designed to produce quality printing at high speed, at a rate of up to 6,000,000 prints per month. With up to six programmable input trays, the Xerox DocuPrint 180 incorporates exceptional paper handling capabilities. It can also print on one or both sides of a wide range of media with various weights and sizes.

Additional software enhancements include SUN Ultra 60 ESS, DocuSP, Adobe Postscript Level 3 and PCL5e support, enabling data stream switching, queue and job management, TIFF and PDF printing, job interrupt and resume.

The Document Company XEROX is a US$18.6 billion global corporation. The company employs highly experienced sales and marketing experts to market customised solutions to vertical industry segments, including oil and gas, banking and finance, graphic arts, manufacturing, education, telecommunications and utilities sector.

The Olayan Group entered into a commercial cooperation for distribution of Xerox products and services with Xerox Limited in 1986 to form Saudi Xerox Agencies Company (SXL). SXL is headquartered in Riyadh and has Regional offices in Jeddah, Khobar and Riyadh Provinces, apart from being represented by several dealerships across the Kingdom.
