Message: I totally agree with the dead wood method. it is the management that needs changing, if it is producing DEAD WOOD then one need to take away the root itself before the end result it NILif the school has to provide a good breed of students then it has to start from the principals office and then to the teachers and class rooms,to ensure the end result of the student is a good one and a great HONOUR to the school iteself. If the children know there is discipline maintained, there is a dress code to follow and they cannot get away with their whims and fancies. Above all if the Parent knows he or she cannot come and convince the Principal to take back their children even if they have done wrong and unworthy to even consider being in the school, then ultimately everyone will get the message and abide by the rules.

By deciding to have a separate section for boys and girls is not the solution, how on earth can you people consider these things in today's world where men and women are to work together and live together. it is a socially accepted by far and large that we live in a mixed society. I wonder who is thinking of all the wrong things at the school. Instead divert your attention to the student and their studies. Let the teachers pay more attention to the teaching and do their job properly Let the principal hire capable ones and not go by influence or recommendation.

Look at some of the students, their dress code, hair styles,( ALL THE WRONG THINGS ARE DONE BY THE KIDS WHOSE PARENTS ARE TOP NOTCH ONES IN THE SCHOOL OR SOCIETY) All of these show the school standard and how much the teacher cares of his / her student. What happened to the good old school methods, where one had to abide by rules in the school? If you take the children who have coloured their hair or have had a punk hair cut , the parents are a part of the school, so why is the Principal allowing this ?

Parents check your children, see who their friends are, if the influence is bad then you need to intervene, get more involved in your child's affairs, dont let your child be a bad influence to others. Dont let your child follow someone blindly instead make your child a leader so that others will follow him/her.YOu have a responsibility towards your child and the society. Dont produce children who will be a laughing stock or a menace to the society. Dont think the foul language (which they so liberally use ) is the in thing and encourage them. One of the phrases the children use are abusing their own mother or father, parents how do you feel about this? I am referring to the high school ones.

I was there for the sports day and was so embarassed by some of the high school boys using the word 'f' (FUCK) at least 20 times until i had to move away. My child is in a smaller class and I have decided not to let him be in ISM when he reaches middle school, it scares me to think my son could be standing behind someone and saying the same words. This is a language we never use in our homes. Probably this is the language the boy is taught at home or school, i have no clue.

Teacher if you do have a problem with children , call the parents inform them, at least do your duty without giving up on kids whom the parents have entrusted you to teach ( for a part of the money they have to pay through sacrifices ) Dont you know a child always look upto the teacher after his parent as he spends a good amount of time in school and many years learning in classrooms. ISM are you listening? Let this be an awakening and try to do your best and justify the sacrifices the parents make to send them to school to be educated and not corrupt and uselss.

Message: These days in Indian Schools;in teaching and learning, dead wood(incompetent Principal's) is evident in inefficient, unfair and arbitrary classroom management, non-responsive teaching and poor learning. However, the challenge in clearing the dead wood is to do so without creating more problems.

Message: sorry it seems you have some malice towards the society itself.
we are discussing the teaching methods and how the school should take necessary action against such students and tell the parent that their children are NOT FIT to attend school but the Principal and other authorities are not willing to be unbiased. Instead they succumb to the pressure of the parents, esp if they are rich and prominent figures of the society.

This is what the person is trying to tell, I presume. Yes I do agree the parent / specially the woman or mother of the house pay a very important role, instead of getting involved in the TV or social actitivities they need to monitor the so called teenagers, since most of the complains are from the middle and high school of ISM.

The classes upto 6 or even 7th standard are under control to an extent but they need better teachers , committed ones for the higher section. we are stressing on the teaching methods and the dedication of the teachers, what about their forced tuitions ?

At least let the school ensure the children are disciplined in school , during the long waking hours they spend year after year. Teachers be a little more dedicated and patient, your student is what you are.

For instance if a teacher pronounces a certian thing wrong or teaches the wrong thing it gets implanted in a child, i am not talking about upbrining ( that is for parents only )

As for parents - they should also ensure the children are under control and the basics are right. It is always the rich parents who have the worst or rotten ones who would do anything to get attention in school and in the process destroy other children too.

Message: By blaming the School only for all what is happening in the Indian Schools is not justifiable. We the parents are responsible for such atrocities. We have no time to look after our children, we do not want to teach them basic courtesies, we do not want our children to behave in a cultured manner. It is some kind of escapism. I feel that mothers are more accountable and responsible for the absolutely bad behavious of their children. Of course, husbands are also to be blamed, because they are henpecked and they are scared to tell their spouse what is wrong and what is right. Now there is a general tendency that these idiots belive whatever their wives say is correct and the result is you bring up your children giving all freedom to wander here and their and provide them with sufficient money to enjoy their life without evening bothering to see their academic performance and displine in the life.

By agreeing to their all demands, parents get a hassle free life but they do not realize that these children actually curse for the society. GSM is provided to children to convey messages that their parents are going out for party or somewhere and their food is ready on the dining table to have it any time when they want to come home irrespective of the day / night difference.

Children are provided PC's with Internet connections at their bedrooms so they get private to visit any site to their choice. This way they don't disturb parents wanting their favourite serials / movies etc. To make their children like broiler chicken they feed them with high rich foods so that they find it difficult to control their sexual desires and school is the only place for such activities because so many belong to such categories. Ultimately, before you blame the school authorities for everything that your children do, think several times whether you are doing moral justice to your children and society. Help them to get a disciplined and fair life by teaching good things, by advising them, by restricting their resources, by controling their pattern, by limiting their freedom to the limit they deserve to their age.

More importantly, ask your wives to be reasonable, make them understand what is life, what is good life - just show off by putting up lot of make-ups and project their front and back will not help them always. Have guts to teach them what is right and wrong. Then see the difference in your life pattern and the comfort you are getting, peace you are enjoying. For everyone life begins at home. Bring your children to become good and dutiful citizens of our great country as well as teach them respect the country where they leave.

Bye Bye

Message: I read with interest your column on the indian school happenings and must admit that it is time the people who are over and above the so called offices ( i am referring to the acting principal and the vice principal etc ) should be removed and replaced with more capable and able people who could manage the school and not destroy the basics.
It is a common known fact that most of the children loitre around the school after classes, meeting, romancing in the school premises. Teachers are the least bothered about the welfare of the child or his/her education as they are so poorly paid - we are talking about 6,000 or more students and on an average fee of 25 - 30 RO where does this income go??
has anyone ever thought of this? and each class have and what is your class strength ?

most of the class rooms are pathetic. the bathrooms are not clean and there is a strong stench in the corridors. teachers cannot control classes and walk out in the middle of the classes, giving up on kids. such teaches should be removed from their positions for not being capable. 99% of them thrive on tuition, if any student is weak he or she is asked to come to the tuition class.

wake up you parents - if you have to pay a fee for the school to teach your child then why are you filling the teachers pockets again with an additional income called TUITION - you parents are to be partly blamed for it too, it is time the Indian School changed its method, paid the teachers a good salary and stop them from giving tuitions to ensure the student gets the best in class. Teachers, be true to your profession and parents wake up and stop allowing the teachers to thrive on their private business which they call 'tuition' and we call should be thinking a complete waste of money and time for the child
the Acting Principal has to be taught how to speak to parents politely, if a school office does not practise these things then what could be the attitude of the teacher and down the lane the student/s ( we are talking about 6 thousand students ) would be like them too, so they need to start the changing process from the top, the less spoken about the vice principal would be better for all

If children could slap a teacher, bring in GSM's to school, smuggle fire crackers and even sell drugs on their premises and these very children are taken back to school then how do you expect it to be a school worth going to. Are the teachers checking their bags at random - one of the latest in thing is for children to carry floppies with a lot of down loaded porno stuff from the internet. If the teachers paid more attention and got involved in the students activities and studies, things would have been different and would have been able to produce a much better name for the school and prepare them to be useful citizens for the country and the future.

If the principal has this attitude to kick out a teacher, then it explains the teachers frustrated attitude towards the school and the poor students who are the invariable victims. In turn the student rebels, it is indeed PATHETIC and about time that the INDIAN EMBASSY at least took control of things and did something to protect the school and the name of the country. As the reputation ISM has earned is a very bad one and the students behaviour outside the school clearly shows the inside of the school.
Look at the other schools, even the Ghala Indian School., Wadi Kabir etc, the children are so well behaved, look clean and well mannered compared to ISM

WHY ? Principal please answer this !

A school is where basic things are to be taught including, respect, discipline and all the good things. If the parent had to do everything then there wouldnt be any need for sending the child to a school, home studies would suffice. A child should be given a good upbringing, that is the parents duty. But what is the school doing to make sure the fees they take are justified? teaching from the text book orhaving exams ( it is full of exams and nerve racking exercise for the parents to make sure the child studies hours or go to a tuition class to make sure he is thorough and ready for the next day) is the only common thing in INDIAN SCHOOL MUSCAT. dont you know that 'all study and no game makes jack a very dull boy'theory. So time to change things, Acting Principal, think before you make your decisions and do what is best for the students, if you have no students then there wont be a school. Do something before things get worse. Talk to the teachers, ban or curtail the tuition which they are so attached and thriving on, do you know some of them make over a 1,000 Rials a month out of tuition alone, is this shared with the school offices ?

There is no more joy for children in studies, they all dread the word SCHOOL - thanks to people like the teachers of Indian School Muscat

Time to change your system and justify the fees paid by the parent, which is a lot of money esp for people with a middle class i

Westerners camnot be Role Models

I read with interest about all the news and comments of the PCO and we Pakistanis are indeed very shocked to realize that financial blunders of such magnitude is happening in the PCO !! Asians are basically, very family and God-fearing people and we have ancient cultures and values and virtues, which the western world just cannot even dream about. So what is the solution? They blow-up our defects and emphasize that we are from the dark ages and the definition of modernity and maturity and civilization is what they do !!! Welcome to the world of Single mothers, teen-age mothers, love-child, Homes for the aged, Pedophile, Homosexuals becoming Bishops, Child-molesting Catholic priests, pregnant nuns, and what not !!! Non-Asians and the westerners, are so rotten in culture, values and virtues, that they just cannot get back into the right path anymore. But all the same, they do want to get into Heaven!!! So there has to be a way out. What is that? They emphasize on the FORGIVENESS/ETERNAL LOVE of God!!! This theory means that they can live as they please and all they have to do is to confess their sins towards the end of their lives and off they take off to Heaven!!!Sins without consequences/repercussions and unconditional forgiveness!!!! The fact is that the movies they market are uncensored. So you get to see all that is in these movies, which is seen in the USA.And that too there are about 1 to 7 movies in some DVDs and it is all priced at a mere 2 Rials. There are people even driving in from UAE to buy them. More
