Message: I read with interest your column on the indian school happenings and must admit that it is time the people who are over and above the so called offices ( i am referring to the acting principal and the vice principal etc ) should be removed and replaced with more capable and able people who could manage the school and not destroy the basics.
It is a common known fact that most of the children loitre around the school after classes, meeting, romancing in the school premises. Teachers are the least bothered about the welfare of the child or his/her education as they are so poorly paid - we are talking about 6,000 or more students and on an average fee of 25 - 30 RO where does this income go??
has anyone ever thought of this? and each class have and what is your class strength ?

most of the class rooms are pathetic. the bathrooms are not clean and there is a strong stench in the corridors. teachers cannot control classes and walk out in the middle of the classes, giving up on kids. such teaches should be removed from their positions for not being capable. 99% of them thrive on tuition, if any student is weak he or she is asked to come to the tuition class.

wake up you parents - if you have to pay a fee for the school to teach your child then why are you filling the teachers pockets again with an additional income called TUITION - you parents are to be partly blamed for it too, it is time the Indian School changed its method, paid the teachers a good salary and stop them from giving tuitions to ensure the student gets the best in class. Teachers, be true to your profession and parents wake up and stop allowing the teachers to thrive on their private business which they call 'tuition' and we call should be thinking a complete waste of money and time for the child
the Acting Principal has to be taught how to speak to parents politely, if a school office does not practise these things then what could be the attitude of the teacher and down the lane the student/s ( we are talking about 6 thousand students ) would be like them too, so they need to start the changing process from the top, the less spoken about the vice principal would be better for all

If children could slap a teacher, bring in GSM's to school, smuggle fire crackers and even sell drugs on their premises and these very children are taken back to school then how do you expect it to be a school worth going to. Are the teachers checking their bags at random - one of the latest in thing is for children to carry floppies with a lot of down loaded porno stuff from the internet.

If the teachers paid more attention and got involved in the students activities and studies, things would have been different and would have been able to produce a much better name for the school and prepare them to be useful citizens for the country and the future.

If the principal has this attitude to kick out a teacher, then it explains the teachers frustrated attitude towards the school and the poor students who are the invariable victims. In turn the student rebels, it is indeed PATHETIC and about time that the INDIAN EMBASSY at least took control of things and did something to protect the school and the name of the country. As the reputation ISM has earned is a very bad one and the students behaviour outside the school clearly shows the inside of the school.
Look at the other schools, even the Ghala Indian School., Wadi Kabir etc, the children are so well behaved, look clean and well mannered compared to ISM

WHY ? Principal please answer this !

A school is where basic things are to be taught including, respect, discipline and all the good things. If the parent had to do everything then there wouldnt be any need for sending the child to a school, home studies would suffice. A child should be given a good upbringing, that is the parents duty. But what is the school doing to make sure the fees they take are justified? teaching from the text book or
having exams ( it is full of exams and nerve racking exercise for the parents to make sure the child studies hours or go to a tuition class to make sure he is thorough and ready for the next day) is the only common thing in INDIAN SCHOOL MUSCAT. dont you know that 'all study and no game makes jack a very dull boy'theory. So time to change things, Acting Principal, think before you make your decisions and do what is best for the students, if you have no students then there wont be a school. Do something before things get worse. Talk to the teachers, ban or curtail the tuition which they are so attached and thriving on, do you know some of them make over a 1,000 Rials a month out of tuition alone, is this shared with the school offices ?

There is no more joy for children in studies, they all dread the word SCHOOL - thanks to people like the teachers of Indian School Muscat Time to change your system and justify the fees paid by the parent, which is a lot of money esp for people with a middle class i

Message: I read with interest about all the news and comments of the PCO and we Pakistanis are indeed very shocked to realize that financial blunders of such magnitude is happening in the PCO !!!

My friends and I are very attached to Christians and their institutions and nowhere in Pakistan have we encountered such financial frauds and blunders - and that too with an auditor of zero ethics!!!

Imagine what will happen to such a committee and auditor if they handle the accounts of any mosque in any part of the world ? Least of all in the arab countries !!!

Asians are basically, very family and God-fearing people and we have ancient cultures and values and virtues, which the western world just cannot even dream about. So what is the solution? They blow-up our defects and emphasize that we are from the dark ages and the definition of modernity and maturity and civilization is what they do !!! Welcome to the world of Single mothers, teen-age mothers, love-child, Homes for the aged, Pedophile, Homosexuals becoming Bishops, Child-molesting Catholic priests, pregnant nuns, and what not !!!

From what I have noticed in the Asian Christians over the Western Christians, is basically this fact.

Asians are always aware of the WRATH/PUNISHMENT of GOD and as a consequence, they stay away from major/regular sinning, simply because they are so obsessed in going to Heaven with their whole bunch of relatives !!!

Non-Asians and the westerners, are so rotten in culture, values and virtues, that they just cannot get back into the right path anymore. But all the same, they do want to get into Heaven!!! So there has to be a way out. What is that? They emphasize on the FORGIVENESS/ETERNAL LOVE of God!!! This theory means that they can live as they please and all they have to do is to confess their sins towards the end of their lives and off they take off to Heaven!!!Sins without consequences/repercussions and unconditional forgiveness!!!!

How on earth is this logic going to work? I have asked this to many, many Christians form many countries who work in Oman and found out that the Christians with the strongest and undiluted values are from Pakistan and South India.

Logically, I admire and respect these South Indians for their values and virtues (though there are about 10% hypocritical people in their community too). But basically, I admire their Christian principles.

What I have to say to all those other Christians here is that THE ONLY BIBLE THAT PEOPLE WILL EVER READ IS YOUR THOUGHTS, WORDS AND DEEDS. Why should we non-Christians believe in the EFFECTIVENESS of the Bible when it is so very INEFFECTIVE in you people?

You people have already confused the whole world with having hundreds of various Christian denominations, plus various versions of the BIBLE, plus thousands of ADULTERATED/TWISTED/MANIPULATED theories on what each doctrine in the Bible means according to different Theologians from various countries, and how it should be JUSTIFIED / MERGED and above all ADJUSTED to their particular sins , defects and justifications.

Personally I am so happy that I am a Muslim and we have a perfect standard on what the Koran means to all of us world-wide. And, very thankfully, we do not have hundreds of versions and ideologies. And our teachings do not change with each country/culture/tradition.

My advise for PCO is that I have personally witnessed the mis-behaviour of your sunday-school kids and the hypocricy of your social life outside church circles.

This financial scam is only making it worse!!! Please clean up your act, before more and more non-christians read and laugh about you people.

And lastly, why are you Indians, Pakistanis, and Srilankans in the PCO still under the servantship of the British Raj? Wake up, brothers and sisters!!! We are already in the 21st century.

And a last note to the editor. Since there is already a very sizeable population of non-keralites accessing this site. please name it as www.gulfmonitor.com or www.khaleejmonitor.com or much better as www.gulfexpatriate.com.You will have a much wider readership this way, or else others will conclude that this site is for matters concerning Keralites only - which is absolutely wrong !!!

You have done a wonderful job in bringing out such articles and hope you will continue to expose the corruption in all areas of subjects affecting the gulf expatriates.

I wish to meet you someday and congratulate you in person, but then I realise that you need to have your anonymity and confidentiality !!!

Please give a chance for the PCO to speak out and explain their side of the story, though I very seriously wonder what logical explanations can they ever give to justify their mismanagement. Keep your anonymity and let them respond through letters like we do.

Too bad, you guys are not managing a Company, or else you would have been in jail by now!!! And all money wasted to be recovered from your personal incomes!!!

Message: I completely disagree that the pirated DVDs sold on the Ruwi street footpaths are of porno materials.

Firstly, let e tell you that I am a very regular visitor and buyer from these vendors. The fact is that the movies they market are uncensored. So you get to see all that is in these movies, which is seen in the USA.

And that too there are about 1 to 7 movies in some DVDs and it is all priced at a mere 2 Rials. There are people even driving in from UAE to buy them.

Pornos are not sold there and what is happening is that there are Baluchis there who sell BLANK CDs to gullible customers saying that they are Blue movies. Why on earth should one be so obsessed about pornos when it is so easily available on various satellite channels?

My advice is that nobody should be fooled by the thought of buying porno from the roadsides. These are blanks or other movies. You will not only lose your money, but you cannot complain about them.

God knows how long will this piracy of DVDs and VCDs will continue. So buy when it is available. Never buy the latest movie releases, as they will be mere THEATRE PRINTS !!! with no proper audo / video effects.
