Dubai Municipality Notices to 126 Shops in the City
Dubai, 18 September 2004 Dubai Municipalitys Pest Control Section fined 24 establishments and issued warning notices to some 126 shops and establishments in various parts of Dubai that violated the prevailing pest control and surveillance procedures during the month of August.
This came in the monthly report of the section, which noted that actions were taken against the violators during routine inspections carried out by the section.It also warned 108 establishments and fined 24 under the local order 82/93 pertaining to the control of public health pests in the emirate of Dubai. The section has also fined an establishment and warned two others under the local order 58/91.
The inspections were part of a series of measures taken by the section to preserve public health and prevent pest-borne diseases from occurring in the emirate.Foodstuff shops, construction companies, and other establishments have to comply with general cleanliness rules stipulated by the section and should be free from pests that are harmful to human health.In order to detect the entry of exotic pest insects into Dubai through seaports, airports and bird sanctuaries, the Pest Control Section Laboratory has been continuing regular monitoring activity in these strategic areas. During the same period a new local lady officer posted in the Pest Control Lab received training in insect taxonomy and insect identification job. The report said the section has inspected according to the two parts inspection checklist, 23 private pest control companies in Dubai during August, two companies passed in both parts of inspection.
The section has also fined a company for not providing staff list and correct information to Pest Control Section. Also during August, three supervisor candidates from existing pest control companies and different establishments appeared for termite control and supervisor examination to qualify for termite control work and start new pest control companies and one of them passed and other two failed. One pest control operator candidate from a private company appeared for test but failed.
Tanmia & DCCI sign MoU to enhance labour market awareness among UAE Nationals
MOU to provide training programme and create employment opportunities for UAE Nationals
September 18, 2004 The National Human Resources Development and Employment Authority (Tanmia) and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build awareness among the students and job-seeking UAE Nationals about the latest trends in the job market. The campaign will update students and job seekers about the latest developments in the UAE labour market. Tanmia and DCCI will provide job seekers on-job training, to increase their chances of gaining employment. The MoU comes amidst several other pro-active activities being undertaken by Tanmia in training and equipping the job seekers.
Tanmia and DCCI will co-operate in several key areas such as providing employment services by organizing a series of meetings between the employers and job seekers. The MoU was signed by Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Awar, Director General, Tanmia, and Abdul Rahman Ghanim Al Mutaiwee, Director General, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"This partnership reflects our success in developing effective strategies to find suitable jobs for UAE Nationals in different commercial sectors and enhance their presence in the labour market. We have developed extensive resources for screening candidates and identifying the type of training required in order to increase their productivity at the work place," said Al Mutaiwee.
"The MoU with DCCI provides us another opportunity to work for the benefit of hundreds of UAE National jobseekers. DCCI is considered as one of the most important government department that helps generate employment opportunity in various sectors. I would like to thank the members of DCCI for their pro-active approach and support to Tanmia, which too provides on-job training programmes, thus increasing the number of job opportunities for UAE Nationals," said Dr Al-Awar.Stating that DCCI fully understood the importance of Emiratisation, Al Mutaiwee said: "We hope that this MoU will facilitate the entry of nationals into the private sector, thanks to the experience Tanmia holds in the development of human resources and employment generation among UAE Nationals. We will provide specialized mechanism to streamline communication between the employers and Tanmia to make available to UAE Nationals the best possible jobs, thus contributing towards Emiratisation."
DCCI also plans to provide all the necessary help and support to the employed UAE Nationals, especially those who own small-scale business. Along with Tanmia, DCCI plans to create suitable job vacancies for UAE Nationals in various technical fields. In addition, both sides have also planned to develop an ambitious work plan towards proper implementation of the MoU within a specified time frame.
On its part, Tanmia will cooperate with DCCI to identify job requirements, carry out job meetings and nominate suitable candidates from its available database. It plans to link its website with the main page of DCCI. Tanmia will organize a series of meetings with employers, to explain to them about the services it offers to the job seekers as well as arrange a number of programmes to increase awareness about the functioning of its online service in registering and selecting UAE Nationals and preparing their entry into the labour market.
It will also cooperate with Dubai University to organize training programmes to equip Tanmia's registered UAE National job seekers. Tanmia is currently negotiating with other companies and institutions, both government and private, to increase the job opportunities for UAE nationals.
DestinationOman 2004 Print Edition Launched

MUSCAT Sept 15, 2004. His Excellency Mohsin bin Khamis al Balushi, the Undersecretary of Tourism, Sultanate of Oman, launched the 2004 maiden annual print edition of DestinationOman at function held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on14th September 2004.
The 136 page beautifully illustrated book is a visual treat, that has foreword written by the Minister of Tourism Her Excellency Rajiha bint Abdul Amir bin Ali and boasts of principal photography by one of Oman's most celebrated photographers His Excellency Mohammed al Zubair.
The book has three sections; the first covering tourism destinations; the second covering business, economy and investment opportunities; and the third covering essential information on Oman - relevant to tourists and businessmen, including contact numbers of Oman embassies and consulates, restaurant listings, etc.
"The annual print edition is inspired by the huge popularity enjoyed by the webportal by the same name (www.destinationoman.com) that was launched three years ago, on the sidelines of the Arabian Travel Market, again by the His Excellency Mohsin bin Khamis al Balushi itself", said Deepak Nair, who founded DestinationOman.
"The book seeks to promote Oman as not just a tourist destination, but as a business and investment destination as well", he added. He said, he got over 100 enquiry emails from the site every month from potential tourists and visitors to Oman, who want more information about the country. "Oman is definitely getting to be one of the most sought after destinations in the middle east, if the feedback from the site is any indication", he noted further.
Deepak said, he was most thankful to the officials at Ministry of Tourism, and the OCIPED for their cooperation and His Excellency Mohammed al Zubair for his beautiful pictures of Oman, which further enhanced the quality of the publication.
