14 killed in accidents in India NEW DELHI, May 13 -- At least 14 people were killed and 66 injured in three separate road accidents in north India's Uttaranchal state, police said Tuesday.At least six persons died and more than 50 injured when a bus parked at a slope in Idiyakher village near Rishikesh carrying a marriage party rolled down into a 250 meter deep gorge Monday, police said.
In another incident, six passengers were killed and 16 injured,two of them critically, when their bus skidded off the road and fell into a khud at Belkhet area in Champawat district, police said. The bus, carrying 26 passengers, mostly Nepalese nationals, wasgoing to Khatima in Udhamsingh Nagar district from Roshal in Champawat district when the mishap occurred Monday evening. Five persons died on the spot while a six-year old child succumbed to injuries in a hospital, police said.
In a separate accident in Damta area of Uttarkashi district, a truck rolled down into a gorge, killing the driver and helper on the spot, according to the Press Trust of India. Chief Minister N.D. Tiwari has expressed grief over the deaths in accidents and directed senior administrative and police officials to effectively check the occurrence of such incidents.
