St.Josephs Centenary celebrations begins

Jan 19 Thiruvananthapuram: St.Josephs Higher Secondary School, one of the premier schools in the capital city has completed 100 years. The school celebrated this auspicious occasion in a grand ceremony held at the School auditorium. The school which started functioning in 1905 will completes 100 years in the year 2005. The school community would celebrate the glorious long innings throughout the centenary year.
Kicking off the centenary celebrations, it was announced that the celebrations of completing 100 years would start with the college day celebrations and end in the year 2005. State Governor Sikander Bakht, who inaugurated the function said that knowledge manifests itself in action and that education should be able to convert human mind into a living fountain. He added that St.Josephs is a school that has been guided by ethnic values. Minister M.V.Raghavan presided over the function. Mayor J.Chandra gave her felicitations on the occasion. Rev. Soosapakiam gave a keynote address in which he spoke of the valuable service that the school did for the society.
The school has provided education to many poor students by giving concession. "This has been a great service to poor students," he said. M.V.Raghavan said St.Josephs is like a grandfather whose birthday is going to be celebrated by his grandchildren - the school students themselves. Chandra cited out the importance of the school, which gave birth to many prominent people like filmstar Madhu and Narendra Prasad. The programme was attended by Shivakumar MLA.
The school has a great heritage to its credit. The school students are actively involved in various activities, which is reflected in the results in various fields said Shivakumar MLA.
Following the inaugural ceremony, the School Day celebrations followed with many entertainment programmes and prize distribution. The School day began with the reading of annual report in which, principal M.A.George mentioned the diverse activities and achievements of the school. The report highlighted the positive role of St Joseph's Parent-Teacher Association and the Malayala Samajam. Malayala Samajam is an association formed to develop the literary talents of students. "The past year saw many literary events which gave opportunity for students to exhibit their talents. Among students, special appreciation was given to St.Josephs School sports stars, Prijith, Ashwini and Rohan.
The principal also expressed his pride on the achievement of Sandeep, a St Joseph student who is taking part in the Republic Day celebrations at New Delhi. Activities of the N.C.C cadets, especially various camps and social activities, have been widely applauded. Even when the inaugural ceremony was progressing, N.C.C cadets were really active in serving refreshments to the audience. The principal also appreciated the activities of Nature Club and Forest Club.
Following the report presentation, prizes were presented to various students who excelled in literary, arts and sports activities. Vishnu Gopal, the cine star and kalathikalam, won three memorial awards for his outstanding performance in academics and bharatanatyam dance performance. There were great cultural performances by school students. The function was attended by dignitaries like Msgr.M.Joseph, Vicar General Diocese of TVM and P.S.Abraham Deputy Headmaster. The prize distribution was done by Msgr.M.Joseph who in his speech shared his sweet memories of student life in the school. (K M Reporter R S Priya)
