Seatrade to focus on challenges facing Middle East Shipping

Dubai- December 19, 2002 Seatrade Middle East Maritime, the region's first integrated conference and exhibition for the maritime industry, will focus on the potential for the international shipping industry in meeting the region's needs, in the face of rapid expansion of sea borne trade. Organised by Seatrade - the international maritime communications group - the conference, to be held at Grand Hyatt Dubai conference centre from February 3-5, will see leading industry experts, from Europe and the Middle East, address critical issues impacting the sector.

It will focus on the emergence of the region as a major maritime cluster, with Dubai as one of its natural centres; safety, security and environmental issues; energy transportation and fleet expansion; the growth of bulk cargo movements; container shipping developments; the future financing of fleets and how the region's maritime infrastructure needs to adapt to the growing demands of an expanding shipping sector. "The Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent is the world's primary energy exporter and is growing rapidly as a ship owning and ship management centre, with a sophisticated service sector in support," said Christopher Hayman, Managing Director, Seatrade.

"The time is right for a major maritime event that will provide an industry specific forum for the region's leading players to address the key opportunities and challenges facing the maritime industry."

In addition to the general shipping conference, Seatrade Middle East Maritime will also feature a parallel cruise industry conference and an associated exhibition, the biggest showcase of maritime related products and services ever assembled in the Middle East.
The conference and exhibition will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, UAE Defence Minister and Chairman, Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

The principle sponsors are the Dubai Ports Authority, Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) and the DTCM. The event also has the support of the Dubai Shipping Agents' Association and the UAE National Ship Supplies Association.

Seatrade Middle East Maritime will use the core capacity of Grand Hyatt Dubai's conference centre to stage the exhibition, whilst The Fairmont Hotel and Hyatt Regency Dubai will oversee the accommodation and banqueting facilities.
