Thiruvananthapuram Colleges lead the end of second day of Youth Festival
Thiruvananthapuram : It was with the Monoact performances that the second day of Kerala University Youth Fest 2004 began. In the stiff competition that took place at the University College, there were around 33 participants. St.Josephs Centenary celebrations begins
Jan 19 Thiruvananthapuram: St.Josephs Higher Secondary School, one of the premier schools in the capital city has completed 100 years. The school celebrated this auspicious occasion in a grand ceremony held at the School auditorium. The school which started functioning in 1905 will completes 100 years in the year 2005. Kerala University Youth Fest 2004 begins
Jan 19 Thiruvananthapuram: Once again the capital city is witnessing the colourful performance of talented college students. The Kerala University Youth Festival 2004, which was inaugurated here at the Senate Hall today at 6.p.m.would end on 24th. "More than 1000 participants from around 80 colleges are competing in various venues for the next six days. There are students from arts, science and engineering colleges who are competing in various items.
The festival was jointly inaugurated by musical legend V.Dakshinamurthy, film director Lenin Rajendran and Hindustani music maestro Ramesh Narayanan at a colourful inaugural function. State Cultural affairs Minister G.Karthikeyan delivered the keynote address followed by Mohiniyattom performance The function was also attended by Mayor J.Chandra, Kerala University Union Chairman Ben Darwin, M.Vijayakumar MLA, Pro Vice Chancellor Dr.S.Kevin, Mangode Radhakrishnan M.V.L.A, C.Jayan Babu,Prof. M.N.C.Bose and syndicate members B.Satyan, Madhu.S.Nair, P.Biju, University Union Gen.Secretary Latheesh B.Chandran and M.P.Rassel who spoke on the occasion. The programme was to be inaugurated by film star Revathy, who could not attend the event due to tight shooting schedule.
KU Youth Fest Competitions begins today in full swing
Jan 20 Thiruvananthapuram: The first day of the Kerala University Youth Festival, 2004 witnessed stunning performances in various competitions held at various venues in the capital city. The number of participants this year increased substantially. Various venues where the programmes take place have been given special names. The Senate Hall is named as Samyukta Panigrahi Nagar, where Bharatanatyam competitions for boys and girls take place. In the University College -renamed as Narendra Prasad Nagar, Monoact for boys and girls are to take place. V.J.T Hall renamed Nagavalli R.C.Kurup Nagar will house instrumental music competitions.
Sanskrit College is named as M.P.Appan Nagar, where literary competitions will take place. Ayurveda College venue has been named as Harivansh Rai Bachchan Nagar, where the recitation and elecution competitions would take place. Fine Arts College named as M.P.Gafoor Nagar would witness Painting and applied arts competitions
In Mohiniyattom competitions held yesterday, Divya.R. Nair of Mar Baselios College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram won first prize. The second prize was bagged by Sajna Sudheer of Govt. Women's college. Ashwati Krishna of N.S.S.Karamana and Anjana P. of University College shared the third prize. In the Mohiniyattom competition, there were 11 participants.

In Monoact (Male) B.Sunil Kumar T.D. Medical college, Alappuzha won the first prize followed by Rojin Thomas of D.B.College Sastamkotta who won the second prize. Sanoj A.S. of Govt College Kariavattom won the third prize. In the Monoact performance (Female) in which 14 girls participated first prize was bagged by Ramya Ramanan of Fathima Matha National College, Kollam. Performance of Tara N.S of Law Academy was noted for her performance of the story of Reetha, which got her second prize. S.N.Smitha of All Saints won the third prize.
In light music (Male), Anish C.A. of University College won first prize. The second and third prizes were bagged by Najeem Arshad of Swathi Tirunal Music college and Sreekumar T.K. of M.G.college respectively. In light music (Female) P.Archana of All Saints is the first prize winner. Sreedevi R. Krishna of Govt Womens college won second prize and Sreedevi S.Raj of S.N Womens, Kollam won third prize.
In Instrumental music section, Aruna Shivaram of Govt Womens College won first prize in Violin recital. The second and third prizes went to Dineshini D., Department of Music and Shridhar Narayan of Govt Engineering college Trivandrum.
On the second day, the host college seems to be leading in the festival. In the results of 15 competition items, first three places are won by Thiruvananthapuram colleges. Government Womens College is leading with 16 points. In instrumental music (western), Hindi elocution, the college won first prizes. For the prestigious Mohiniyattom and Light Music too Womens got the second prizes.
Karyavattom Campus is just behind the Womans college with 14 points followed by the . University College with 12 points.
The Kalaprathibha from Alappuzha P.K.Sunil once again showed his talent at Monoact and bagged first prize. Mothi Mayyanadu of Alappuzha started his wonderful performance by bagging prize in painting competition. In Bharatanatyam (Male), Bobby Krishna is repeating his past performances and also bagged first prize. He is studying in Medical College TVM. Yet another talent who is shining on Monoact stage is T.V star Ramya Ramanan, a first year degree student from Fathima Matha College, Kollam.
Yesterdays programmes took place at the Senate Hall (other classical dance forms). Other competitions held at the University college are instrumental music western solo. Other venues were Women's (Classical music), V.J.T Hall (Fancy dress and debate), Sanskrit College (Versification), Ayurveda College (recitation and elocution -English) Fine Arts College, (Cartooning and Sculpture.) .
